"Hey, guys." Finn said, eyeing Carole, Burt, and Kurt in the living room. "I have a lot of homework, so I'm gonna go upstairs and get started."

"Not so fast." Carole stopped Finn. "Homework can wait."

"Come here and have a seat." Burt added. "Kurt, go to your room."

"But, I-"

"Kurt." Burt repeated.

Kurt got up from the couch, looking at Finn as he walked past him and left the room.

Carole and Burt looked at Finn, waiting for him to sit down.

Finn sighed as he put his backpack down and reluctantly sat down on the couch.

No one said anything.

"What's going on?" Finn questioned his parents.

"Did you propose to Rachel?" Burt began.

"Did Kurt tell you that?" Finn wondered.

"Honey." Carole said softly as she sat down. She took a deep breath and looked at Finn. "I can't do this again, so I need you to tell me the truth."

"Do what again?" Finn asked.

"Is Rachel pregnant?" Carole blurted.

"What?" Finn furrowed his eyebrows. "No."

"Good." Carole exhaled in relief. "That's good."

Finn nodded in agreement.

"Finn, I'm so proud of the man you're growing up to be." Carole continued. "And after all you've been through, I'm glad you're happy with Rachel."

Finn smiled.

"But this is a big commitment." Carole said.

"You're not ready to get married." Burt stated. "You're too young, and you're not mature enough to handle the responsibilities that come with being somebody's husband."

"But I-"

"You don't cook, you don't do laundry, you don't have a job." Burt said.

"I have the tire shop." Finn said.

"You also have musical talent." Burt continued. "And I don't want you selling yourself short because you're afraid."

"You think that's why I asked Rachel to marry me?" Finn wondered.

"We don't want you to be like Puck and Quinn." Carole added. "They had a baby way too young and now they-"

"They're my friends." Finn interrupted, getting defensive. "And they're happy together. They're good parents."

"We're not saying they're not." Carole stated. "You know how much I love Puck, and he's grown into a good man, too, but... Finn, I don't want you stuck with decisions you made as a teenager."

"There's always divorce." Finn shrugged.

"You don't get married expecting a divorce." Burt told Finn, his voice stern but calm. "Marriage is a serious commitment, Finn. It's not something you can walk away from just because things get tough."

"You need to be really sure that this is what you want." Carole nodded.

Finn shifted uncomfortably in his seat, trying to process what they were saying. Part of him understood their concern. He knew they had his best interests at heart. But the other part of him just wanted to be with Rachel.

"I am sure." Finn insisted. "I love Rachel. And I don't wanna wait forever."

"Honey, no one's saying you shouldn't be with her." Carole clarified. "We're just saying that you need to think about what's best for both of you and both of your futures."

"Are you ready to build a life with her—one that isn't based on just the idea of being together, but on making real decisions together?" Burt questioned Finn. "'Cause that's what marriage is. It's not just the fun of dating, it's the good and the bad and the seriousness."

Finn opened his mouth, but the words caught in his throat. He had never really thought that deeply about what marriage meant. All he knew was that he didn't want to lose Rachel.

"It's okay to be in love, Finn." Burt went on. "Hell, it's great. It's okay to want to build a future with someone. But don't rush into it thinking that love alone is enough to make everything work."

"There are a lot of other things you have to figure out first." Carole told Finn. "And you need to do that before you make any big decisions."

Finn bit his lip.

"We just want you to think it through." Carole said softly. "You have a lot to offer this world on your own."

"Okay." Finn nodded slowly. "But I already asked her. I can't un-ask her."

"Talk to her." Carole advised Finn. "Maybe she's having this same conversation with her dads or friends. Maybe she's not ready to get married either."

"I'll think about it."
