"Puck's here!" Finn announced as he let Puck into the Hudson / Hummel home.
"Merry Christmas." Puck said, entering the kitchen and setting the boxes in his hands down. "Thanks for having me. I brought dessert."
"You didn't have to do that, sweetie." Carole told Puck. "We're so happy you could join us."
"Just like old times." Puck noted.
"It's not Christmas without you." Carole smiled.
"Thanks." Puck smiled back. "Where is everybody?"
"Burt went to surprise Kurt in New York." Carole replied. "They're doing something with Rachel and Blaine."
"Cool." Puck said. "Since it's just us, what can I do to help out?"
"I can handle dinner." Carole promised.
"I know." Puck nodded. "But we can help."
"Wash your hands and I'll put you to work." Carole decided.
"Okay." Puck said, going to the sink. He turned the water on and began washing his hands.
"Your mom's working?" Carole guessed.
"She's working, Sarah's at her friend's." Puck answered. "We had dinner with my brother and his mom last night."
"Oh yeah." Finn nodded. "How was that?"
"Fine." Puck answered. "You know, at first they hated each other, but they quickly bonded over a bigger hatred."
"Your dad." Finn concluded as Puck dried his hands.
"Yeah."
-
"Hey." Finn said. "Quinn just texted me so I told her to come over. Is that cool with you?"
"Why wouldn't that be cool with me?" Puck asked.
Finn gave Puck a look.
"I texted her this morning." Puck noted. "And she texted me for Hanukkah. We're good."
"So it won't be weird if she's here?" Finn double-checked.
"It won't be weird." Puck confirmed.
"Mom, is that okay?" Finn wondered.
"Absolutely." Carole nodded. "The more, the merrier."
"Cool."
-
"Merry Christmas." Quinn smiled as she hugged Finn.
"Merry Christmas." Finn said, gently squeezing Quinn. "I'm glad you made it."
"Thanks for having me." Quinn nodded as she and Finn parted. She looked at Puck as she went in for a hug. "Noah, it's so good to see you."
"You, too, Q." Puck said softly, holding Quinn and kissing her cheek before letting go of her. "You look good. How's school?"
"School's good." Quinn replied. "I heard you're back in Lima."
"Yeah, I've been back to get to know my brother." Puck confirmed. "And to keep an eye on Finn."
"Well, I'm glad you two are looking out for each other." Quinn commented as she turned to Finn. "Have you seen Rachel since...?"
"No." Finn answered. "You hear from her?"
"Every now and then." Quinn nodded. "Mostly about school or what she and Kurt are up to. Nothing about boyfriends."
"I'm pretty sure Kurt said she asked her boyfriend to move in." Finn said with a shrug.
"Well, then I guess she knows better than to talk to me about boyfriends." Quinn shrugged back. "But what about you? Are you seeing anybody?"
"Nothing serious." Finn shook his head. "Just having fun."
"Taking a page out of the Puckerman handbook, I see." Quinn teased.
"Hey, it's always worked out for me." Puck chimed in with a smirk.
"What about you?" Finn asked Quinn.
"I'm just focused on school right now." Quinn swore. "Although I'm glad it's break and I'm really glad to be with my boys on Christmas."
Finn smiled.
"And I finished the semester with straight A's, so..." Quinn shrugged.
"So there's a lot to celebrate." Puck finished with a smile.
"Come see my mom." Finn said.
"I'll be right there." Quinn promised, kicking off her shoes.
Finn walked away, leaving Quinn and Puck alone.
"What about you?" Quinn asked Puck. "Any holiday hookups?"
"I'm just catching up on all the missing time with my brother, but it's good." Puck answered. "And I'm just figuring myself out."
"How are your mom and Sarah?" Quinn wondered.
"Good." Puck said. "Sarah said you texted her for her birthday last month, I'm sure she'd love to see you."
"Yeah, that'd be nice." Quinn nodded.
"Guys!"
"Coming!" Quinn called back before giving Puck a look and walking away.
Puck followed Quinn to the kitchen.
"Quinn! It's so good to see you." Carole smiled as she greeted Quinn with a hug. "Thanks for joining us."
"Thanks for having me." Quinn smiled back as they parted. "It's so good to see you, too. All of you."
"I heard you got straight A's." Carole added. "Congratulations."
"Thank you." Quinn nodded. "School's been hard, but I really love it."
"Any boyfriends?" Carole questioned Quinn.
"The only boys on my mind right now are these two." Quinn grinned. "But I'm actually okay with that. I don't mind the peace."
"Sometimes, peace is the best gift." Carole nodded in agreement. "Let's enjoy it while we can."
"And make sure it stays that way." Finn added. "We've all had enough chaos."
"Yeah, I think we've had our fair share." Quinn responded.
Everyone gathered around the table, settling into the familiar comfort of shared food and laughter.
Puck passed around the dessert he'd brought, his smile a little wider than usual. There was something about the atmosphere here, in this house, with these people, that made him feel like maybe he had a place in this world after all. A place that wasn't defined by past mistakes or the weight of expectations, just by the people who cared about him.
Puck sipped his drink, smiling at everyone around him.
"Here's to family, near and far." Finn said, raising his glass.
Puck clinked his glass against Finn's, then Mrs. H's, then Quinn's. "To family."
