Santana slammed the door behind her as she stormed into the apartment. She'd been out all day working, then meeting with her agent, then going to a work dinner, and she was tired and grumpy.

Even more so when she saw Brittany on the couch, watching TV.

"Brittany." Santana began.

"Yeah?" Brittany asked.

"You were supposed to meet me at dinner." Santana reminded Brittany. "I texted and called you."

"I lost my phone." Brittany shrugged.

"So instead of replacing it, you're sitting here watching TV?" Santana snapped, her patience already long gone. "You didn't show up for me, the apartment is a mess, and we're not roommates. You're my girlfriend."

Brittany frowned at Santana's anger.

"I need your help at home." Santana continued. "Especially if I'm working. I come home and you've left your dishes everywhere. You always forget to take out the trash. I'm the one who has to handle everything."

Brittany bit her lip as she began to get upset. "I'm sorry. I've been busy with my work, too, and I've been trying to do things in between when I can. I didn't mean to let you down."

"That's your excuse?" Santana asked. "You're sitting here watching TV."

"That's not fair, Santana." Brittany said, taking a shaky breath. "I'm trying."

"Trying?" Santana shook her head. "It's not enough. We can't continue like this anymore."

"What does that mean?" Brittany asked.

Santana paused, the words catching in her throat.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke. The apartment felt suffocating, the air thick with all the things they hadn't said, all the things they were afraid to face.

"I don't want us to become one of those couples who..." Santana trailed off and took a deep breath.

Brittany's eyes filled with tears. "Santana, I love you so much. I don't know what I would do without you."

Santana swallowed hard, her own tears threatening to break through. "I love you, too, Britt. I'll always love you, but we need to do something different."

"Are you saying you wanna break up?" Brittany asked.

"I'm not saying that." Santana shook her head. "I don't wanna break up, Brittany. I just... I feel like I'm carrying all of this on my own."

"I never asked you to do that." Brittany pointed out. "I'm not perfect. Sometimes I mess up, Santana, and I'm sorry, okay? I'll try harder, I promise."

"I don't need you to be perfect." Santana clarified. "I just need you to step up. To show me that you care the way I care."

"I do care!" Brittany insisted. "I care so much, but sometimes I just forget about the chores."

Santana looked at Brittany, finally slowing down and understanding.

Brittany wiped tears from her eyes.

"I'm sorry I yelled at you." Santana apologized.

"I know." Brittany whispered.

"We need to make some changes." Santana added. "We both need to be more responsible when it comes to ourselves, our home, and our relationship."

Brittany nodded slowly. "I will, I promise."
