Courtney stared down at her martini in front of her. She was stirring it with her finger every so often. She had to be on her third one, she could barely taste the alcohol in it anymore.
Her and Scott had gotten into another fight, her storming out of his house once again. This seemed to be happening a lot more often. He was barely every around, and when he was, he was usually drunk. He hadn't been showing up for their dates, and when she'd call him out on it he'd get pissed. She would yell, he'd scream, she'd leave, he'd ignore her. Same old shit every time.
Courtney was just getting sick of it. He rarely acted like her boyfriend, he acted more like someone who would call her when he wanted attention. It made her so angry.
Like she was now, as she sat at the only bar in town, at 2 in the morning. Sipping away at her martini as her anger boiled down.
"Can I get a beer?" a deep male voice said suddenly next to her. She looked over to see a taller man leaning against the bar. He had jet black hair that hung a little in his face, he wore a leather jacket over his white muscle shirt. A peak of black ink stuck out from the collar. He had a patch of scruff on her chin below his lip, and stood with a look of casual confidence. It made her sit up a little straighter in her seat, she flicked her bangs out of her eyes and noted that he had to have the most gorgeous pair of teal eyes she'd ever seen.
"It sucks this is the only bar in this town. Guess that's what I get for small town living," the man said, a half smirk playing at his lips as he watched the bartender crack open a cold beer for him. The man caught it as the bartender slid it across the counter.
Courtney watched him as he sat on the stool next to her, leaning his elbows on the bar as he lazily took a sip of his beer.
"You live around here?" she asked suddenly. Surprising herself, she usually didn't like talking to strangers.
But something about this man made her feel like breaking her own rules.
"Yeah, I live just down the road actually," the guy said, slowly turning to look at her more clearly. She hid a blush as she saw his eyes scan her body.
"I've just never seen you around town," Courtney shrugged, and lifted her martini to her lips. She watched him smirk again
"I don't like staying in one place for too long. I'm usually in the road on my bike, only stopping back home to see if anythings changed. Which it almost never does, things don't change in small towns," he said, Courtney nodded a little and looked at her drink, it was almost gone
"Can I get another one of these, please?" she asked the bartender, who nodded and took her glass.
"The girl likes her martinis I see," the man joked, nodding at her. She smiled sheepishly
"Usually I'm not one for alcohol, but tonight it was just calling my name," she said, heaving a sigh. The man raised a brow
"Boyfriend troubles?" he said. She blinked a little
"H-how did you-"
"It's not that hard to tell, that look on your face. Also, I'd be surprised if a smoking hot girl like you didn't have a boyfriend to constantly worry about," he said. Courtney's cheeks blushed, she bit her lip a little
"You certainly are smooth, aren't you?" she said, a smile coming to her lips slowly.
"I can be," the man said, grinning at her "I'm Duncan, by the way,"
"Courtney, Courtney Taint," she said back, sticking out her hand to shake his. Duncan chuckled and looked at her hand than at her
"Classy, and sexy. I don't see too many girls like that around here," Duncan said, slowly shaking her hand. Courtney swallowed hard when she felt him hold on a bit longer than she would have liked.
