"You and me we made a vow,

For better or for worse,

I can't believe you let me down,

But the proofs in the way it hurts,"

There had been so many signs. So many obvious signs that all seemed to slip right past her field of vision.

The first sign she should have seen was one night after a party. Gwen had had to practically carry a wasted Duncan to their shared apartment. He was slurring words she couldn't understand. It was New Year's Eve, and Geoff had thrown yet another one of his insane parties. The couple of nearly 4 years had been invited, and they were happy to show up. No one would ever be stupid enough to miss one of Geoff's parties.

"Ugh, Jesus," Gwen groaned, as she tried to balance a drunk Duncan leaning on her shoulder and digging around in her pocket for the key to their apartment.

"Geoff... Was.. So... Wasted," Duncan slurred, chuckling between his words. Gwen rolled her eyes and unlocked the door, nudging it open with her foot. She led Duncan down the hall

"Okay big guy, I think it's time to call it a night," she laughed, as she slowly got him into their bed. "You and whisky definitely do not mix,"

Gwen then leaned down and started to pull the sheets around him, but she was surprised when he twisted away from her, and pushed her hands back

"Duncan, knock it off. Stop playing games," she snapped, and reached for him again, but be groaned and avoided her touch. Gwen scrunched her brows together in confusion.

"What the hell-"

"You're not her," he slurred. But his words were just clear enough that she caught them. She stiffened, and looked down at him as he rolled over slowly

"I'm not who?" she whispered, suddenly feeling slightly nauseous. But Duncan had already drifted off in a drunken sleep. Gwen swallowed hard and shook her head, brushing off what he said and tucked him in.

But she couldn't ever quite get those words out of her head.

"For months I'd had my doubts,

Denying every tear,

I wish this would be over now,

But I know that I still need you here,"

The second sign came a few days after. When the two were sitting at a restaurant having dinner.

The two were chatting away, when Duncan's phone let out a beep. Signaling that he had just received a message. Gwen swallowed a bite of her pork chop, as she watched her boyfriend grab his phone out of his pocket and slid it unlocked. He was casually holding it under the table, somehow she had convinced herself that that was the way he had always answered texts.

His mouth twitched into a smirk, and he texted back. Before locking it and sliding it back into his pocket. And continued eating his steak. Gwen swallowed hard

"Who was it?" she asked casually. Duncan shrugged his shoulder and waved it off

"It was just work texting me my schedule for next week," he said. Gwen nodded and looked down at her unfinished meal. Suddenly not feeling very hungry anymore.

She should have known.

Duncan never smirked at anything about work.

"You say I'm crazy,

Cause you don't think I know what you've done,

But when you call me baby,

I know I'm not the only one,"
