Courtney sighed as she pulled up her long time boyfriend's driveway to his apartment building. He had texted her and asked her to come over, and that it was important. Courtney dropped her law school homework and got dressed right away. Duncan rarely ever said things were important.
She all but sped over here, cursing a few times under her breath at Ontario's stupid drivers. She was worried he had done something stupid with the law again, and was planning on telling her he was getting locked up for some serious time. She was going to kill him
"Duncan?" Courtney called, after using the key he gave her to enter his apartment. She looked around as she gently shut the door behind her. Her brows scrunched together when she saw numerous candles lit all over his apartment. But he was no where to be seen.
Idiot. Doesn't he know that's a fire hazard?
Courtney rolled her eyes as she set her purse on the couch and went to blow out the candles, when a noise stopped her dead in her tracks... No.. It wasn't a noise. It was lyrics, to a song playing. But not just any song...
                              "Check yes Juliet,
                              Are you with me?
Rain is falling down on the side walk,
I won't go until you come outside,
Check yes Juliet kill the limbo,
I'll keep tossing rocks at your window,
There's no turning back for us tonight,"
No. This wasn't just any song... It was their  song.
Courtney followed the sound to his balcony. She gently slid open the glass doors to see the one and only Trent standing by a table set for two. More candles were lit, casting a romantic glow over the balcony. Trent was strumming his guitar gently as he sung the words to her's and Duncan's song. She gave him a confused look and opened her mouth to speak, when a much deeper voice beat her to the catch
"Courtney," Duncan's voice said from behind her. Courtney whipped around on her heels to see her handsome boyfriend leaning against the door frame. He wore a simple black button down shirt that was tucked into a pair of khaki colored pants she had bought him for his 20th birthday. He had snorted and called them "douche pants" at the time. She had never actually seen him wear them until tonight. And seeing him in them made her skin hot. He rolled his sleeves up to his elbows, and his black hair was perfectly jelled back. He wore a pair of black and white converse, but she didn't mind. He wouldn't be Duncan without them.
"Duncan?" She asked, getting more confused by the second.
"You look..." he breathed, slowly eyeing her up and down.
"Confused?" she mumbled, he smirked and shook his head
"I was going to say gorgeous," he said. She was wearing a casual white blouse and a pair of dark blue skinny jeans with her signature brow heels. Her hair was pushed back by a black headband.
"What's going on?" Courtney asked, slowly placing a hand on her hip. Duncan slowly pushed himself off of the door frame. And he motioned for Trent to cut the singing. He did, but continued to strum his guitar softly as Duncan slowly walked forward and towards his confused girlfriend.
"Well... I'm going to do a little talking, and you're going to do a little listening," Duncan said. She looked up at him as he stopped in front of her. Courtney slowly looked into his piercing teal eyes. And suddenly she remembered the first time she ever looked into them. And remembered falling in love with him as soon as she did.
"Courtney... You know better than anyone that I'm not very good with my words. But for tonight, and especially for you, I think I'm willing to make an exception," he gently reached up and moved her bangs out of her face. They were getting long.
She knew she had to cut them, but she knew the longer she grew them out, the more he'd have to move them out of her eyes. And she secretly loved it.
"We met over 5 years ago. When you were the lucky victim to move into the house next to mine. We were stupid teenagers, 15 years old. We hated each other at first, let's be honest."
Courtney let out a small giggle,  but quieted down to let him finish
"Back then, you were just the girl I loved to pick on... And now, you're just the girl I love," Duncan smiled at her, Courtney felt her heart skip a beat. She gently reached up and placed her hands on his strong chest.
"Through these last 5 years we've come so far. We've fought, to the point where I thought we couldn't come back from it. We've made up.. Had some pretty awesome sex," He smirked as she blushed bright red. He slowly pulled her close
"But mostly, we've fallen even more in love with each other every day. Every day I wake up and ask myself how in hell I got so lucky to have a smart, beautiful, sexy as hell girl like you. These last few years... It's been like the last stretch of a roller coaster. When the ride finally comes to an end, and your knees are weak and your stomach is in knots... But you can finally breathe again. And Courtney... I never want to take another breath without you by my side. I want you in my life, Courtney. Forever,"
Courtney's eyes went wide as he slowly stepped away from her, and dug around in his pocket to pull out a small black velvet box. She put a hand to her mouth as he slowly dropped to one knee in front of her. Tears sprang in her eyes
"Courtney Elizabeth Taint... Will you make me the luckiest son of a bitch on this earth and marry me?" Duncan asked, his voice cracking as he slowly opened the box. To reveal a stunning princess cut diamond ring on a golden band
"Oh my God," Courtney squeaked out. She felt her knees weaken. Her heart raced.
"Yes!" she cried "Yes, I'll marry you, you neanderthal!"
Duncan sprang up and slid the princess cut ring on her finger. It fit perfectly. Courtney sobbed and threw her arms around his neck. He laughed as he hugged her tight and spun her around.
Slowly he set her back on her feet, and she lunged at him and kissed him passionately. With a passion only they could ever have. Courtney wanted this. She wanted him. She wanted to wake up every morning with him next to her. She wanted to walk down the isle in a white dress, and have him be her groom. She wanted it all. She wanted Duncan more than she ever thought she could want anything.
"I love you so much," She whispered at him. His grip tightened around her, as he looked her in the eyes once again
"I love you too, Princess," Duncan whispered back. The two kept looking into each other's eyes. Courtney bit her lip, planning on ripping his clothes off, already undressing him with her eyes-
"Um..." an awkward voice said from behind him. The two broke away from their intimate stare to slowly looked at an awkward looking Trent. Who was scratching his head, his guitar hanging loosely around his shoulders
"So, I'm still getting paid... Right?"
