As soon as Duncan walked through Courtney's front door-like he did every morning for school- he could tell something was off.

Courtney wasn't sitting at her typical spot by the island in her kitchen, munching away at her favorite breakfast of blueberry waffles and orange juice.

In fact, the kitchen, and the rest of the house, looked completely untouched. The dishes from the previous night hadn't even been done. And his Courtney was a complete neat freak when it came to things like that.

Duncan slowly closed the door behind him, he set his red school bag down on the island and walked towards the stairs. He knew her parents weren't home, they were always away on business. He walked up her stairs

"Princess?" he asked, as he slowly nudged open her door. He peeked his head in, to see a Courtney-sized lump laying tangled in her purple silk sheets. His heart quickened a little. This was so unlike her. Sleeping in late?

What the hell was going on?

"Hey, you know school starts in like a half hour, right?" he asked. Stepping into her room. His red converses squeaking against her hard wood floor. He checked his watch that she had gotten him for his 17th birthday. It was almost 7:30.

"You sleep in much longer we won't be able to stop for your favorite coffee," he teased. She still didn't move. Duncan walked over to her bed

"Alright, come on sleepy head," he said, yanking the blankets off of her. Duncan swallowed hard, really getting worried now

"Courtney," he said. His voice serious, he used her real name.

A tiny whimper escaped her chapped lips. And she rolled over slowly, showing a very pale face to Duncan. Dark circles were under her eyes, and she looked like she was sweating

"Jesus Courtney," Duncan said quietly. Now sitting down on her bed, he reached down and touched a hand to her forehead. She was burning up.

"You're burning up sweetheart," Duncan said, swallowing hard. He pulled his hand away. Courtney slowly blinked, and opened her very bloodshot eyes.

"We're gonna be... Late." she said breathlessly. Courtney went to sit up, but Duncan gently pushed her back down by her shoulders.

"Oh hell no. You're not going to school like this. You're way too sick," he said. Courtney coughed

"But, we have a Trig test-"

"No, Courtney," Duncan said. Her eyes widened a little, surprised by his use of her actual name.

"You just get comfortable. I won't leave you." he said. And slowly tucked her in, she smiled weakly at him

"Thank you Dunkie," she said with a yawn. Duncan made sure she fell asleep before he slowly walked out of her room.

He slowly smirked, glad to get out of that Trig test. He was going to fail it anyways.

A few hours later, Courtney's eyes slowly fluttered open again. She sniffled a little and slowly looked at her clock on the nightstand. It was almost noon. She was surprised she had slept that long. Courtney rubbed her tired eyes and slowly sat up. She felt like crap. She didn't understand where this sickness came from. It was as though it happened over night. She rarely ever got sick, she always took her vitamins, stayed away from cold weather. Made sure her hair was always dry before going outside.

She was used to fending for herself, even when she was sick. Her parents were barely ever around. So she made sure she had every cold medicine known to mankind in her bathroom.

She however, was not used to having Duncan so worried about her. She remembered waking up earlier and seeing that worried crease between his brows, how his gentle hand touched her forehead. How sweet he was talking to her. It made her heart flutter.

Especially knowing how much of a bad boy he always acted. It was nice to know she knew a whole different side to him, one that no one would ever see. One that was reserved for her, and his Ma.

In speaking of Duncan... Where was he? Courtney slowly looked around her room, not seeing the man. She slowly stood up, and coughed a little into her hand. She cold feel her eyes and nose were dripping. She grabbed a tissue from the box he must have placed on her nightstand. And blew her nose.

She knew she would have to make up that Trig test, but that wasn't really on her mind right now.

Courtney looked over at the sound of her phone dinging, signaling that she had a text. She picked it up and slid it unlocked. It was from Bridgette.

Hey girly. Miss you, I'm not used to not having my right hand with me at school. Duncan told me you were really sick, feel better!

Courtney smiled faintly and set her phone down, and walked across her room to her door. She opened it and walked down her hallway. She heard faint noises coming from the kitchen, and followed the noise.

Upon walking into the kitchen, her eyebrows shot up to her hair line in surprise.

Duncan was working his way around her kitchen, the deliciously familiar smell of blueberry waffles wafted to her nose. Making her mouth water. She looked around, the kitchen looked spotless!

He had actually cleaned!

Courtney slowly cleared her throat, and Duncan turned around. A mixing bowl clutched in his hands. Courtney flew a hand to her mouth, covering up a giggle. He was even wearing a cute white apron!

"Oh hey," he said, blushing embarrassed. "I thought you'd still be sleeping. So I could take this up to you when it was done,"

Courtney slowly dropped her hand, a smile still at her lips. She walked over and sat down at the island.

"You were going to make me breakfast in bed? How romantic!" she teased him. He rubbed the back of his neck

"Oh hush," Duncan said, quickly turning away from her. Refusing to let his tough guy ego down. She giggled again, and slowly looked around her kitchen again. Admiring how shiny and clean everything was

"It looks great in here, thank you for cleaning," she said. Duncan looked at her over his shoulder

"I knew how much you love a clean house, so I just.. Yeah," he mumbled and turned away again.

Courtney watched him bring over a plate of 3 blueberry waffles. And set them down in front of her, he poured her a glass of orange juice as well.

Courtney kept that smile as she slowly picked up her fork and dug into the plate. Once she swallowed the first bite, she moaned

"These are amazing," she said. He chuckled and slowly sat down next to her

"It's not all that. All I did was follow the box," he admitted casually, watching her devour his cooking.

Once she finally finished, Courtney slowly pushed her empty plate away, and leaned back against the chair. Letting out a comfortable sigh

"Thank you, chef," she joked. Duncan rolled his eyes

"Hey uh..." Duncan said, slowly rubbing the back of his neck again "You mind not... Telling anyone.. That I did this? I don't need anyone thinking I'm some sort of softy or... Something," That embarrassed blush came to his cheeks again.

Courtney giggled and leaned over, slowly pecking him on the cheek

"Your secret is safe with me." she whispered.

Ah yes.

She really did enjoy that secret side only meant for her.
