I walk into my house, after a very long day. The air is California was calm and humid but it felt nice. At home, it smelled like roasted vegetables and chicken. Thank God.

"Hey, babe." Brian rushed over to me. He kissed me softly.

"Hey."

"Dinner is almost ready."

"I'm going to shower and get comfortable." I told him.

"Okay."

I kissed him for a moment before going upstairs. I showered and dressed in my pajamas which included sweats and one of Brian's old shirts and socks. My face is free of makeup and I put my hair in a sloppy bun. Time for dinner which I am looking forward to.

Brian had set up the table and was pouring me wine. I sit at my normal spot. He sits across from me.

"What did you do today?" I asked him.

"Dom and I went to the race thing. It was wild." He said

"Sounds fun. This food is delicious!" I exclaimed.

Brian laughed. "You ever think about racing me?"

"No. I don't want you to lose and be sour about it." I smiled.

"I'm a professional." Brian shot back.

"You think your a professional." I sighed.

"So race me. Right now." He stood.

"Is that a challenge?" I narrowed my eyes.

"Unless you're scared your going to lose." He shrugged.

I stood, too, fired up. I walk over to the counter and grab my keys. I dangle them from my finger.

"Let's go, bitch." I squinted.

Five minutes later, we are speeding down the highway. He is ahead of me which is pissing me off. I swerve from behind of a mini van with three kids in it and stomp on the gas, my car pushing forward. I am doing 95 on a 65. I am going to win this race. I shoot past Brian, giving him the finger as I go. My cell phone rang.

"Exit four, there's a field where we can stop." Brian instructed.

"How does it feel to be on the losing side?" I asked.

"Could ask you the same thing." He zoomed past me, laughing.

I hang up, getting frustrated. I push my car to one hundred miles per hour, swerving in and out of lanes, honking at cars going too slow. I can tell Brian is still laughing. He slowed down, getting off at the exit he said, I followed. I am behind him and we are going too fast. We are on a track field and Brian swerves left, stopping, my car zooming past. There's a red finish line and I past it.

"What the fuck?!" I screamed.

I stopped my car and get out of the car, steaming in anger.

"WHY DID YOU LET ME WIN?!"

I looked at the field. There's a huge sign which is held up by the team. They are all smiling. The sign says Will You Marry Me Katherine Howard? I am confused and I stormed over to his car. He gets out and gets on one knee, holding up a black box. I am speechless.

"Katherine Howard, you are mean and rude and a bit crazy...but you are also smart and funny and badass. I am willing to deal with the bad for the rest of my life because I love you. I love you like I've never loved before. You bring me this overwhelming happiness that I know is real. You saved my life twice and I want to spend it with you. I want to grow old with you, I want to die next to you. I want to be the guy that you view as your light. I would never hurt you and I promise I will love you forever. Just please do me the honor and be my bride. Will you marry me?" He poured his heart out to me.

Tears welled up in my eyes and my heart raced. I imagine a future with him. A house with kids and and a fucking gorgeous wedding. I realize in that instance that Brian is my soulmate because of the fact that I can't picture a future without him. I smiled wide.

"Of course!" I hugged him and kissed him passionately.

"Yeah!" Brian was smiling wide as he slipped the beautiful rock on my finger. "I love you."

"I love you too."

The team was cheering, the sign dropped as they ran over to us. They engulfed us in hugs and shouts of joy.

Right in that moment...life was perfect.
