Boy Problem 11

Dear BAM, To say I need help is an understatement. I'm from Ireland and here we call prom "the debs." Due to the year above me being such a small year they couldn't afford to have a debs without more people so my year were invited to join them. One of my friends actually in the senior year introduced me to his friend who we decided could be a potential date. We hit it off and mainly stuck to talking through social media and I asked him to the debs in march but here's the problem...We've really grown apart, he doesn't like me not in the way I originally wanted, he openly said that I'm a distraction. I am literally a distraction for him cuz he can't go out with a different girl. We have different views on things and we no longer have anything to talk about. Im honestly dreading this. spending a evening with him. I don't want to sound like a horrible person but I don't want to go with him anymore and it's stressing me out so much. But I realized that.. I'm paying for his ticket. Why should I go to a debs with someone who I don't enjoy being with? But how to do I explain to him that I don't want to go with him without hurting his feelings. -girlinneed

Dear girlinneed, 

Well it seems to me like you wouldn't be hurting his feelings on this matter since he's already said that your a distraction from taking another girl to the prom. It might be best if you didn't take him at all and perhaps even help him to ask the girl he does want to go to prom with. I should also mention you don't really have to go with someone to the dance as more than just a friend because people go to dances with their friends all the time. I suggest finding someone that you actually enjoy their accompany with and just have fun. 

In the case that this does sometimes sting his ego a little bit remind him of what he's said to you and say that you hope their isn't any hard feelings because their isn't on your side.
