"I don't mean to be rude, but who are you"

I ask "Jacob". We were now in my temp office and he was explaining why he was here. But showing up to MY stakeout and taking out MY criminals from under MY nose, not a good way to make an impression.

"Like I said, I'm a detective from Virginia. I got hired to work on this case too"

Don't tell me I'm supposed to work with this guy. I don't do partners. Especially ones who upstage me the second they show up.

"You done judging me in your head hotshot"

"What did you just call me"

See this is what we're not gonna do. When I first started at the NYPD everyone used to call me rookie, or short stack, or hotshot. I know right. But I proved myself enough to get the respect of them using my actual name, we're not about to go down this road again, oh no.

Jacob shoots me an arrogant smirk. Seriously what is his problem.

"Nice to see our head detectives getting along"

The chief says as he walks in uninvited.

"Uh actually sir-"

I start to say but he cuts me off.

"Anyway hopefully the two of you partnering up will help to speed this investigation forward"

He says before walking off. I swear this is the worst day of my life. Even worse than- Well we won't get into that.

"I'll be back"

Was literally the only excuse I could come up with to leave and speedwalk to the break room for a cup of coffee. I chose to go now because as usual there sat Loren, a monster forensic analyst and one of the only friends I had made here so far. I shared my suspicions about the Chief with her and she's been keeping tabs on the situation as well.

"Hey Y/n, have you heard about that superstar detective who's coming today, supposedly from like Vienna or something"

She asks me, pushing back the glasses on her nose.

"Virginia"

I correct unenthusiastically.

"And yes. Unfortunately he's my new partner"

"Oof, well I googled him earlier and he's an absolute dreamboat"

"The fact that you just referred to anyone as a dreamboat, especially him, makes me very uncomfortable"

I say, taking a sip of the coffee she was drinking. Don't worry I used the other side of the mug.

"Oh come on Y/n, you may not like the guy but give credit where credit is due. I mean look at this":

"What is he a male model too"

"What is he a male model too"

I ask really not even interested at this point.

"He was on the cover of TIME Magazine for being 2017s hottest police officer"
