That's right y'all were back in business, let's get it.
Today is gonna be crazy, I already know that. Trying to formulate a takedown strategy kept me up all night, and what happened between me and Jacob- I mean Jacob and I, kept me up even later.
"Your in charge, k Boba"
I say waving to her before I walk out the front door and lock it behind me. So far all I really know is that I need to get into that basement while no one's there. Today there's an induction ceremony for the police college graduates, also known as the perfect time to investigate. After all, I'm not a cop. People assume I am because I work at a police station, but trust me that's not my cup of tea.
Anyway my inner thoughts take up almost the entire drive to work, and luckily I beat the California traffic. As I was clocking in, you wouldn't believe who showed up next to me.
"Hey"
Jacob says quietly as he clocks in quickly. We start walking in silence.
"What do we do"
I ask, not daring to make eye contact.
"Investigate I guess, that's what we get paid to do"
He jokes and it was funny, yet no one was laughing. We approach the door for the second floor and before he opens it he whispers:
"11:30, here"
Before walking down the hallway to his office. I walk in the other direction to mine. By 11:30 the ceremony will have been going on for a half hour. Perfect timing not to seem suspicious. Until then I'll be busy building more case files about the real suspects.
~11:00~
Everyone's heading downstairs to the main hall for the event. Chief, Loren, and two other people I don't recognize leave together...how convenient. I sit in my office for a minute until the crowd gets larger before going downstairs and finding a seat closer to the back. I notice Jacob slip in a few minutes after and shoot me a wink before taking the seat I'm in but on the other side of the room. Everything is falling into place perfectly, and as he said earlier were doing what we get paid to do. Be nosy and mind other people's business.
~11:30~
The ceremony wasn't as boring as I thought it was going to be. I happened to see Jacob sneaking out first. I'll leave a few minutes later.
~11:35~
It's go time. I make a slick exit and look both ways before speed walking to the second floor stairwell.
"Jacob"
I whisper. Confirming my suspicions that he's not here. Did he really use me just so he could get credit for solving the case by himself. And here I thought we had put our differences behind us.
~A few minutes ago in Jacobs P.O.V~
I made eye contact with Y/n a split second before I slipped out the room. She's onto the plan...perfect. I make my way upstairs and wait in the stairwell like we discussed. When I start hearing footsteps it's 11:02. I personally would have waited a little longer before showing up, but whatever.
"Y/n"
I say stepping closer to be met with someone who isn't Y/n.
"Nope, guess again"
He says before throwing his fist into my face. I fall back, hitting the stairs hard. Him talking to another guy is the only thing I hear before I black out completely.
When I come through again I'm not in the same place. It's dark, it smells like rain, and I'm handcuffed on both sides to two different poles that are pulling my arms in both directions. Who the f*ck installs poles at arms length in the middle of a room. Whatever, the point is I can't get out. If I assume correctly this is the basement, because through the dim lighting I can see the shapes of file cabinets and stacks of papers. I just realized I'm shirtless. Why the hell am I shirtless. My head is killing me too, he probably broke skin with that punch. I've arrested people before, but never once felt the handcuffs I put them in. These things are uncomfortable, and the harder I pull the tighter they seem to get. I hear footsteps. Please tell me this is someone here to rescue me.
