So fathers, be good to your daughters
Daughters will love like you do
Girls become lovers and turn into mothers
So mothers be good to your daughters too

While Jack was getting acquainted with his son, Cait had been summoned by her grandmother. She'd gotten the text in the late morning and glanced at it with a sigh.
She wanted to ignore her again, but she'd promised Grayson she wouldn't. And Caroline wouldn't give up anyhow. Cait knew that.
She responded, then finished up some things at the office. Since it was the middle of the day and wouldn't be crowded, she decided to just take the subway uptown to meet Granny for a late lunch. But first, she texted her fiancé to let him know.

"Oh boy," Grayson muttered, looking at his phone."S'up?" Luke asked, while digging in the fridge for a snack. Rae had gone upstairs, but was returning to the kitchen.
"Cait's been summoned to have lunch with Granny Morgan," Grayson frowned.
Luke emerged with an apple and shrugged as he bit into it, but Rae grabbed her own phone. "I think it's time I made a visit to see my mother," she said firmly. "Are you two okay on your own for a little while?"
"We're adults," Luke rolled his eyes at her. "We'll manage."
"We'll hang out here," Grayson said quietly. "I'd like to be here when Cait gets back from lunch to see how she's doing."
Rae nodded, gathered her things and headed out. Luke looked at Grayson. "We ordering pizza?" he asked.
"You just had a snack," Grayson told him. "And I just went to the store. We'll have lunch and we can play some video games while we wait for them to get back."
Luke shrugged and took a seat at the island, while Grayson started making them turkey and avocado sandwiches. "How're you doing with all this?" Luke asked.
"I'm fine," Grayson said shortly.
"Uh oh," Luke smirked. "That's code for not fine at all."
"That's what it is when girls say they're fine," Grayson told him. "Just like when they tell you to do whatever you want, it totally doesn't mean do whatever you want."
Luke giggled a little at that. "I'm learning that stuff. But seriously, are you okay with this?"
"I think I am," Grayson sighed. "I mean, I was honestly a little surprised that Cait was so upset. She really didn't take it well. And then I had a lot of trouble getting her to talk about it. And I learned the hard way that it's important to make her talk about stuff. But if I'm honest, I'm a little worried about how we're gonna handle all of this."
"Why do you have to handle it?" Luke frowned. "You'll be in Salt Lake City. This kid isn't gonna be your problem, except at holidays and shit."
"I don't know about that," Grayson said. "Last night, Jack pointed out to Cait that he's awfully old to parent a twelve year old. And if you think about it, he's right. He's more like a grandfather's age. And he told Cait that she wants to help kids that have had a tough time. But that charity begins at home. I'd already realized that. Cait and I might need to help here."
