Every Breath You Take

Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
I'll be watching you
Oh can't you see
You belong to me
My poor heart aches
With every step you take

Stacy Fletcher groaned in frustration.  She'd snagged their trash again the night before and still hadn't found what she was looking for.  Either Grayson and Cait weren't as ridiculously in love as they appeared or they used a different birth control method.

The former was, unfortunately, extremely unlikely, especially given the torn nightie that had been in the trash.  Therefore, it had to be the latter.  That made her task quite difficult. But not impossible.

She just had to choose her opportunity carefully, to wait for the right moment. There would likely be no second chance. Although she'd long allowed herself to fantasize that Grayson would suddenly come to his senses and dump Caitlin Callahan, the rational part of her brain had now accepted that that was unlikely.

But Duke degree aside, Stacy had little interest in actually working for a living. She wanted to be financially taken care of. And having an NBA player's child was a golden ticket.

She'd have preferred that Grayson just fall in love and marry her. But when she'd realized the odds were against that, she'd determined that there was another way to get into his life. He might even marry her out of a sense of responsibility if she was carrying his child. That would certainly be an added bonus. But even if he didn't, he'd be stuck with her. With paying child support. With seeing the child on her terms. He'd have to be nice to her. She wouldn't be pushed aside the way she had been that night at Shooters.

It was time to change tactics. So she bagged up the trash again and took a shower. Then she grabbed her laptop and started to do some research.

Grayson was off to Sacramento for his last preseason game. And Cait was determined to use the time to get caught up on some things. She had work to do both for her regular job and as part of her continuing effort to pitch in and help her father. She also had work to do for her charitable program. She needed to review the information on the kids that had registered and schedule an initial meeting with them and their parents or guardians to explain the program and to walk through the expectations.

It hasn't been easy to ignore Marvin's pleas that she come for this game and the one next week, but she'd held firm, telling him that she'd see him in a week and that he'd see Grayson in the meantime.  Then she'd had to tell him to stop pouting and worry about playing basketball.

And for her part, Cait had business to conduct. She got busy scheduling more meetings and reviewing more grant applications. And handling some other things for the company. She didn't like Grayson being away. But she did tend to be a bit more productive without him distracting her into bed.

She and Rae found time to catch up and agreed to meet in New York at the end of the month.  They had some meetings scheduled then and Luke and Grayson would both be on the road.

They talked about how preseason was going and how they were each handling things.  Cait realized how important it was to have someone who she could discuss that stuff with, someone who understood the nerves and the craziness.  One more reason that Rae was the best best friend ever.
