I'm off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I'll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can't hurt us
We're far from the shallow now

Grayson got home from his shoot around to find that his dad had arrived, had borrowed Cait's office and was doing some work remotely. Tyler was happily perched nearby looking out the windows at the birds.
"Hope Cait doesn't mind me using her desk," Will smiled at his son.
"I'm sure she doesn't," Grayson said, sinking down on the couch. "Although you don't look nearly as hot in that chair as she does."
Will shook his head. "Stop, please," he begged. "I was really hoping this was one room where you haven't had any nightmares. At least lie to me."
Grayson turned red, but smirked a little. "Sure, we'll go with that," he said.
That caused his father to roll his eyes. "You sure are crazy about that girl," he sighed.
"I passed crazy a long time ago, Dad," Grayson smiled. "In way deep. That's why I'm marrying her."
"Has she made a decision about skiing?" Will asked. "Your mother talks to her all the time, but she hasn't wanted to ask."
Grayson let out a huge sigh. "No," he admitted. "And she also has a few other things going on."
"The Salt Lake Olympics stuff?" Will asked. "She told Mom and I about that."
"And the company," Grayson said, rubbing a hand over his face. "Jack would like her to take a more active role in that. I think she feels some responsibility on that front."
"She can't do that and ski, can she?" Will asked.
"No, and I think she knows that," Grayson said simply. "But I honestly have no idea what she's going to do. I don't think she does either. And I did ask her to try to make room not just for me, but for a family some day. Maybe not right away, but I'm hoping it's somewhere in her plans." He left out Cait's hesitance because of her miscarriage. It was a little squicky to talk to his dad about that.
Will got a wry smile at the notion of a grandchild. "It's very difficult to balance a career and a family," he noted. "Your mother found that out. Rightly or wrongly, men have it a little easier. Mom always said that everyone tells women these days that that they can have it all, but they never tell them exactly how difficult it is. That might be especially true given your line of work."
Grayson thought about that for a few minutes. "Well," he finally said, "I don't ever want to hold her back. So I'm trying to just be supportive and let her make her own decisions."
"Best thing you can do, son," Will smiled at him.

Grayson reheated lunch for the two of them and they just relaxed for a little while. And there was something calming about the idea of just spending rare time with his dad. Grayson loved his mother to death, but Sherry always had an agenda or wanted to deal with one thing or another. She was task oriented. Sometimes, Grayson just liked to chill. And his dad was the most chill guy he knew.
