Darkness on the edge
Shadows where I stand
I search for the time on a watch with no hands
I want to see you clearly
Come closer than this
But all I remember
Are the dreams in the mist

It had been good to see Marvin and Harry, even if it made Cait miss Duke. She and Grayson had managed dinner with them the night before and she was glad. It had meant Grayson relaxed for an hour. Otherwise, he was tense.
She knew what he was thinking without him needing to articulate it. This was it, what he'd been working for, waiting for, dreaming about for so long. But he couldn't put too much pressure on himself. And she'd tried to remind him of that. She just wasn't sure it was getting through.
And she knew he was trying to keep it from everyone else. He was smiling for the media and the fans, telling everyone that he had no expectations, that he was just focused on getting better. Keeping his thoughts to himself. But Cait knew him too well. She knew he wanted to play and play well.
She'd finally broken down and called Luke and asked him to talk to him. And Luke had, reminding Grayson that he hadn't even gotten on the court in his first actual NBA game. And that he just needed to keep working hard and doing his best. That the season was long and the opportunities would come. That anything could happen.
Cait was spending today just doing some work in her hotel room, after hitting the hotel gym. She didn't want to bother Grayson, was happy to let him go to his shoot around and spend time with his teammates. So she was surprised by the early afternoon knock on her door. And even more surprised when she saw Grayson standing outside.
"Gray, what're you-" But she was cut off when he gently pushed her back into the room and closed the door, then pressed her to the wall and crashed his lips onto hers.
"I don't have a lot of time," he said lowly, when his mouth finally lifted just a bit. "But I need you." He was already pulling her sweater over her head and sliding down the leggings she'd been wearing. His nimble fingers unhooked her bra and another pair of string bikinis quickly bit the dust, before he lifted her, tugged the leggings the rest of the way off and gently tossed her onto the bed.
Cait watched him drop his own clothes to the floor, and couldn't deny the excitement snaking through her veins. "Are you okay?" she asked, propping herself up on her elbows.
"I will be," Grayson ground out, joining her on the bed now. "Just need you, Kitten. Need to be less tense."
Cait nodded and put her arms around him.

They were both breathing a bit heavily when Grayson got up and went into her bathroom. He came out a few minutes later and started getting dressed. Cait sat up and watched him. "Better now?" she asked.
"Yeah," he managed a crooked smile. "Sorry, I just -". He stopped and took a deep breath, sinking down to the edge of the bed.
"Don't ever apologize for wanting me, Grayson," she said quietly.
"What if I can't do this?" he whispered. "What if I suck? Or I do something stupid?"
