A good friend and a glass of wine
Someone to say it's gonna be alright
A good friend and a glass of wine
A little pick me up to get me through the night
We talk trash and we laugh and cry
That kind of therapy money can't buy
Every now and then, every now and then
Every girl needs a good friend and a glass of wine

As her father had requested, Cait rolled Connor out of bed and took him to the office in the morning. Margaret hugged him and insisted on bringing him a snack, which prompted Cait to tell her that he'd just eaten breakfast, but Margaret just shushed her and said he was a growing boy, which had caused Cait to roll her eyes.

And Jack arrived and promptly informed Connor that they'd be spending the day volunteering at a local shelter. Connor didn't exactly look thrilled, but Cait had to give her dad credit. It would not only be a good experience for Connor, but the community service would allow him to make up his school work.

She would have joined them, but she was so far behind on her grant applications that she didn't think she should. So after they left, Cait buckled down and got to work.

She was finally feeling like she was getting a handle on some of the proposals from the applicants whose meetings were that week, when she heard a knock at the door and looked up to see her best friend standing there, bag in hand.

"Figured you'd be here, so I thought I'd come in for a couple of hours," Rae smiled at her.

"I'm really glad to see you," Cait smiled in return, realizing that she meant it.  She'd been so busy lately that she hadn't had a lot of time to talk to Rae.  They exchanged texts, but it wasn't the same.

"You okay?" Rae asked, in that concerned way that she always had. She set her bag down and took a seat.

"I think so," Cait told her. "Just trying to get caught up to my overachieving medical expert. And worrying about Grayson on his first day of training camp.  He's nervous."

"Grayson is fine," Rae said calmly. "He's been spending time with the team for weeks now and he's survived it. And you don't have to catch up to me. You've had a lot going on. I'm prepared for our meetings. Let me cover for my boss."

"I'm not your boss," Cait told her.

"Technically, you are," Rae grinned, "so let me show off what a great employee I am."

"Okay," Cait smiled. "But only for a couple more hours. Then I vote we do the best friend thing instead."

"Perfect," Rae smiled.

An evening of giggling and gabbing with her best friend was honestly exactly what Cait needed.  She and Rae decided to make things simple and bought a loaf of fresh bread from a bakery near the apartment and made huge salads to eat with it while they opened the first bottle of wine.

Cait told Rae about how things were going with Connor, about Grayson seeming to have made a connection with him.  And about Connor's dust up at school and Cait's theory that he liked the girl at the center of the controversy.

Eventually, they realized that they should talk bridesmaid dresses.  Cait told Rae that she was giving her full authority to choose what she wore for herself, because Rae was the only attendant that Cait would have for either ceremony.  "Your call," Cait shrugged.  "I just want you to be comfortable.  And if you want two different dresses, that's cool too.  It might be fun.  Just keep in mind the gold beading on my dress for the beach."
