You fill me with hope
With love and devotion
You taught me how to show my emotion
It just goes to prove
What one good woman can do
This is our time, we have it all
We have a way of knowing if we're heading for a fall
We'll work it out and get it right
And when I get home to you
You're such a sight for my poor eyes

Grayson's head was spinning a bit.  Last full practice before the season opener.  And plenty of film study, as well as some conditioning.  It had been a full day.

He was sitting in front of his locker at the practice facility looking at his phone.  He saw a text from Cait that she was going to work out, had dinner in the crock pot and would see him whenever they both got home.  He hadn't been certain how long he would be today.  Tomorrow was a travel day and he'd figured today would be long.

"Yo, Rook," Jae Crowder called from across the locker room.

"Yeah?" Grayson asked.  Jae had quickly adopted Grayson as "his rook" when he arrived in Salt Lake City.  Jae was his vet.  He helped Grayson all the time, was teaching him the business of being an NBA player.  Not that his other teammates weren't helping too.  They were, constantly.  But Jae had been the most involved.

"You got plans tonight?" Jae asked.

"Dinner at home with my girl," Grayson responded with a bit of a frown.  They really didn't go out much, especially not at this point in the season.  And they would be spending plenty of time together on the road.  The first half of their season was loaded with travel.

Jae dropped down in the chair beside Grayson.  "Okay, maybe it's time for us to have the talk about girls."

"Pretty sure my dad handled that when I was fourteen," Grayson told him with a chuckle.  "Let me assure you, I definitely know how it all works."

"Not that talk," Jae shook his head at him.  "The one about being very careful about your relationships and making sure that you don't get Lonzo Ball-ed.  I ain't necessarily the best person to give this advice, believe me.  Or maybe I am, since I've managed to fuck this up."

"You wouldn't trade your daughter for anything," Grayson told him.

"I'd sure trade the baby mama drama though," he returned.

"Jae," Grayson looked at him, "you know I'm engaged, right?  And no, she's not pregnant."

"Rook," Jae gave him a narrow look, "that's a bad idea.  You need to focus on basketball.  There will be plenty of girls that can take care of things for you.  Just pay attention to that shit they went over at the rookie transition thing."

"Not happenin', man," Grayson told him.  "I actually love this girl.  And she gets the basketball thing.  She was a world-class athlete.  She knows how hard I have to work."

Jae was still frowning.  "Man, you don't need no drama during the season," he pointed out.

Grayson chuckled again.  "Well, I can't promise no drama, but if there is any, it won't be because she's upset about me working.  She's awesome.  The kind of girl you should hope to find.  She understands.  And she supports me.  I couldn't do this without her."
