I walked through the small village, two guards walking just behind me as all of the town's people stood in fear. They watched me pass through, none of them brave enough to even attempt to make eye contact with me. Non benders, all of them were. I could tell by the way they stood, Earth benders were more weighted down, water benders were more graceful, and fire benders would have bowed. So why was she stationed in a nonbender village? Surely a lower commander could handle it here, but a generals daughter? Some lowly village scum weren't even worth the time of a lieutenant. (Y/n) held just below the power I hold, maybe even equal considering the amount of effort she puts into the military. So why was she here when she was usually overseeing captured earth bender depots?
The walk to the house she was staying in was annoying long. The stares from all of the town's people were abundantly obvious, they didn't even try to hide it. I almost felt a need to put on a show for them, like I was some circus lizardmonkey. It was humiliating, but the feeling left me as I saw the two guards standing in front of one of the houses.
One guard bowed his head in front of me while the other held open the door. I entered without a word to either of them and was immediately greeted by the sight of (Y/n) scribbling something onto a sheet of paper. A note probably, to whom, I hadn't a clue, probably her father if I were to make a guess.
I cleared my throat and got her attention, but only for a second as she continued to write whatever it was she was scribbling. "You still have a sloppy handwriting," I informed her which received a giggle from her.
"Thank you, princess, I remember my handwriting always did bring suffering to you," she eventually sets the feather down and stands from where she sat on the floor. She was a stand-in Colonel, meaning she had all of the power a Colonel had, but not the title. She was still a commander title wise, I think it bothered her that she didn't get the recognition she deserved, but she never let it show.
She makes her way over to me and bows her head, but does nothing more than that. "It's a surprise to see you, princess," she smiles, "I wish I could offer you a drink, but...we don't really have much here."
"That's fine," I say, "I don't plan on staying that long anyway."
"Why did you come visit me, princess?" She asks as she leads me out of the house. Her hair is longer than it usually was, she was never one for long hair. She said that it was safer to fight with short hair, prevented it from catching fire during an Agni Kai...which she participated in frequently. So why was it to her midback even with the ponytail? "You didn't miss me, did you?"
"Hardly," I roll my eyes, "I wouldn't want to fuel your ego that much." She laughs at that before I continue, "I'm sure you've heard of my brother?"
"On how he and your uncle attacked General Zhao? I've got many letters about it and reports on all of the Avatar spottings. I'm sure you didn't come here just to talk about them, now did you?" She asks as she turns to look at me, a smug look plastered all over her face. I should have known better than to underestimate her web of knowledge. She acted as if she was in ten different places, like she knew everything before it was every going to happen. She probably knew I was going to come see her before I even knew I was...no that'd be impossible...
I look away from her and to the cowering villagers, "Care to join me?" I ask her.
"It'd be my honor princess," she smiles, "Stop staring," she off handedly says to a crowd which immediately disperses. "Are Ty Lee and Mai already on the boat?"
