Back with the Caseys as Matt comes to join Gabby in the kitchen:
Matt's POV: After putting Matteo down for a nap, I smile as I come out to the kitchen to smell Gabby cooking some deserts. I then look at them and go to grab one from the plate when she slaps by hand. "Hey, those are for tomorrow." I look at her confused. "We are already bringing Chicken Wings and Wine to the firehouse for New Year's Eve tomorrow." Gabby looked at me and nodded. "Well, I want to bring some desert too. I learned this is Puerto Rico."

I nodded and understood. "Who taught you this in Puerto Rico?" I then went to grab myself a beer in the fridge before going to sit at the bar. Gabby just stared at me. "Seriously?" I looked at her. "I can't drink tomorrow night on New Year's Eve. So, I am drinking a bit tonight." Gabby nodded and sighed before grabbing the beer from me. "I don't need you to be hung over when you are driving." I don't need to run into the cops on New Year's Eve. She then put it in the fridge.

I nodded and understood. "Sorry." She then sighed and looked at me. "Sorry, I just feel a bit stressed out for tomorrow." I was confused and a bit concerned at the same time. "Something you need to talk about before tomorrow?" Gabby looked up at me and sighed. "I am scared because I haven't done a New Year's Eve shift in a couple years. What if I am not fast enough and screw up...there's already been enough deaths. I don't want to add anymore."

I nodded and then went to get up. Walking over to her, I moved to stand close to Gabby before putting my hands on her hips. "Gabby, you are one of the best paramedics I've ever met. There's a reason why I am easily distracted when we are working on shifts together. It's because I am in awe at how good you are when you are working. You are so calm, cool and collected. Meanwhile, I am secretly freaking out. Gabby, you literally hold people's lives in your hands."

Gabby nodded and just listened to me talk. "And you do it perfectly every single shift. Sure, you may have been written up a few times but...you got written up because of your big heart. That's one of the things I love about you." Gabby smiled when I said that before stepping close to me and leaning up to kiss me softly. "You are so getting some action in the back of the ambulance tomorrow." I laughed and chuckled when she said that. "Sure, because people won't notice."

Gabby then sighed. "Fine, in the office. But, I want to make sure we do get the opportunity to share that kiss outside under the stars. We need to make sure we get that moment alone. Next year is going to be crazy because of everything that's happening. Matteo is going to grow so much and I am going to want to see as much of it as possible. Then, we have our surrogacy project that we are working on. And finally, us still working in a pandemic."

I agreed and went to kiss her forehead softly, trying to reassure her that everything will be okay. "Gabby, you of all people are going to be able to handle all that easily. You were the had of your own team in Puerto Rico." Gabby nodded and smiled when she said that. "Someday, we are going to have to go volunteer. Promise me that you will come this time?" I nodded and smiled. "There is nowhere I would rather be. This time, we are forever. Plus...I would miss Matteo too much." Gabby stared at me. "You would let me take Matteo?"

I sighed and nodded. "You're his mom. He needs you more than me still." Gabby sighed and understood. "You know what, let's not talk about this because it's not relevant. You already promised that you are coming if I go back." I nodded and agreed. "Exactly why you don't need to worry about anything. Just don't spring it on me this time around." Gabby nodded and agreed. "I promise, anyways...we need to sell the house if we go." I then bit my lip and shook my head.

"I would want to keep it. Gabby, I hate to say this but...I don't see us going for a long mission if we go. Maybe we can go like during the summer or for a month at a time. I want Matteo to grow up here in Chicago. I want him to know his cousins. I don't see Antonio and Sylvie moving there anytime soon." Gabby nodded and agreed. "Right, of course." I then sighed and stepped close to her. "Gabby, be honest with me. Do you miss Puerto Rico?" Gabby bit her lip and nodded.

"Matt, you have to understand that I loved working there. But, nothing compares to me being married to you and having Matteo. If I had to pick, I will always pick this life we have. But, yes...I miss the work I did in Puerto Rico." I nodded and then stepped close to her. Kissing her forehead softly, I looked down into Gabby's eyes and smiled. "Listen, let's revisit this when Matteo is at least 6 months old okay? Maybe then COVID will be better and we can go for a little visit."

Gabby sighed and nodded. "Just promise we will go when we can get a good amount of furlough. I want my friends down there to meet you and Matteo." I nodded and smiled. "I would love to. Plus, I would love to meet the doctor that helped you through most of your pregnancy." Gabby was confused when I said that. "Why exactly do you want to meet my doctor in Puerto Rico that helped me during the pregnancy?"

I smiled when she asked and then moved to grab her neck. Rubbing her cheek, I stepped close to her and whispered to her. "I need to thank her for making sure that the love of my life survived her pregnancy and came back to me, safely and alive."
