Matt's POV: An hour after eating lunch together, I smiled as I made my way to Target to get the groceries. While she originally planned to come, Gabby decided against it because she didn't want to take a chance and get nightmares tonight. I completely understood why and was 100% supportive. Anyways, not like it's going to take long. Quickly grabbing a small cart to get some wine (and a few other things if they're on sale), I smiled when I noticed Hermann and Cindy standing by the door, looking over their shopping list before going in. "Let me guess, the kids have already eaten all of the food left at your place?"

Cindy then turned around to look at me and smiled. "Yes. Wait, if you are coming to get food why haven't you grabbed a big basket?" I smiled at them. "That's because we ordered online." Cindy then turned to look at Hermann and slapped him. "See, I told you that you could order groceries online. You're putting our health at risk." I laughed and smiled at them. "So, you sad that he has to work on New Year's Eve?" Cindy then turned to look at Hermann. "I thought you said you're working New Years Day! You know the kids are going to be crazy."

Hermann sighed. "I thought it was New Year's Day. Forgot to mention it." I then looked at him and sighed. "Hermann, rule #1 of being a captain. Always double check that you have your facts right. Trust me, some of the calls I made still haunt me because of how close I came to killing you. Believe me, that would've destroyed me. Especially now that I am a father." Cindy nodded and smiled. "How old is Matteo now?" I smiled when she asked and decided to grab my phone.

"He's 4 months old tomorrow." I then went to bring up the latest picture of him to show them what he looks like now. Hermann smiled when I did that. "Now that's what I've been missing at the firehouse. Your proud father attitude. I've been waiting since you and Gabby got together for that to happen and I'm so happy that it finally has." I smiled when he said that. "We had to take a long road to get here but, I am glad we are here. Life hasn't been the same since he was born." Cindy nodded and smiled. "He sleeping through the night yet?"

I nodded and smiled. "Mostly. Just on the occasional night he wakes up. He's a sleeper though. He's also very expressive. I can tell he is going to be very energic. Not that I would expect any less considering that he is half-Latino." Cindy nodded. "Where does Gabby's family come from anyways?" I chuckled. "Somewhere in Mexico. However, they have a big family. And I am talking bigger than yours. Never though I'd have so many in-laws. Her great-grandmother is still alive."

Hermann was shocked when I said that. "Now that's something I haven't heard of in a long time. That means their family has 5 generations living at this moment." I nodded and agreed. "Honestly, their family is much nicer than mine. I am not really going to tell Matteo much about my family considering both of my living relatives are convicted criminals." Cindy glared at me. "What? You are talking about distant relatives right?"

I sighed. "My mom murdered my father. He was abusive. It was in self-defence but she still went to jail. It hurts sometimes when I play with Matteo. Knowing that he's never going to meet my dad. But then I remember that he abused me and realized it's probably for the best. Oh, and Gabby's father is also a convict. He threatened my life." Hermann nodded. "I know about that. But listen, we should get going. We need to get food for the party."

I then decided to co-ordinate with them. "Just curious, what are you bringing Hermann? Me and Gabby are bringing chicken wings and wine." Hermann smiled. "Cindy is making some of her casseroles." I liked the sound of that. "By the way, those ones you gave us when Matteo was first born were delicious. If you could make some of those...it would be great." Cindy smiled. "The bacon one is already made. Just need to make the cauliflower casserole." I nodded.

"Well listen, we better get going. You guys need to get back to your teenagers and I need to get back home before we need something else. However, tell Lee Henry to keep up the good work. You making him work New Year's Eve?" Hermann nodded. "Yes, that is where we are going to make some money. Can you talk to Antonio and ask him if he wants Diego to work that night?" I sighed and shook my head. "Antonio needs the car, he's working that night on the streets."

Hermann was confused. "I thought he worked Intelligence?" I nodded. "He does but, they need more man power on New Year's Eve. They need to enforce the stay-at-home order. Speaking of which, I need to go so I am not breaking it. Plus, I can't stay long. Less exposure the better. Don't need to have it in my family again." Cindy nodded. "Hermann told me about your sister, niece and ex-sister-in-law. I am so sorry they got this." I nodded and smiled.

"Thanks. But, like I said...I should get going. See you Thursday Hermann." Hermann then nodded and smiled as I walked away to go get the groceries for me and Gabby.
