Chapter One Hundred and Eighty Five

One Week Later

At Spoby's House

"There's my girl." Toby said as he smiled softly at Spencer who had just walked through the door. "Hey." Spencer said as she walked into his waiting arms for a hug. "You know I was a little surprised when you told me you were coming home early, not that I'm complaining, of course." Toby said as he looked at her. "Yeah. I just wanted to take a little break from work. Mom and I ran some new background checks for new clients, and focused some time on trying to find the person who's threatening Maxie." Spencer said. "Did you make any progress on that?" Toby asked her.

"Unfortunately no, not yet. I just needed to take a break, so I didn't overwork myself, stressing out about it. I wanted to be with you and our daughter. I'll go into the den later and do some more work, right now I just want to focus on some family time." Spencer said. "Well I'm

glad that you did, and I know that Marion is going to be happy to see you, too." Toby said, smiling softly at her. "Yeah, where is our daughter anyway?" Spencer said. "Oh, she's upstairs. I kind of tired her out, we were playing a little Hide and Seek." Toby said and Spencer laughed softly. "Oh, you were? That sounds like a great time to me." She said, smiling at him. "It was." Toby said as he smiled back at her.

"Oh yeah, I meant to ask you how the plans for that new house were coming along." Spencer said. "They're coming along great. I actually just finished up the design for the living room before you came in." Toby said. "That's great. Can I see?" Spencer asked. "Of course. Right here." Toby said as he pointed to the coffee table, they both sat down on the couch and Toby showed her his sketches. "Tobes, this looks amazing. Not that I'm surprised, of course." She said, smiling softly at him. "Thanks Spence." He said, smiling softly at her. "I'm just saying the truth, that you're an amazing Carpenter." Spencer said. "But seriously though, thank you, babe.

It looks like there's something else on your mind, too. What is it?" Toby said as he looked at her curiously. "Oh, it's nothing serious or anything. I was just thinking about your performance at the Nurse's Ball Friday night." Spencer said as she smiled softly at him.

(The original plan was for me to write it as usual, but I never had the time to focus on planning it with focusing on getting everything else done for all the other chapters, then they ended up skipping over it on the show, but of course I didn't want to completely disregard it like the show did so I at least wanted to mention that it did happen. This year I hope to be able to get it written again. We'll see what happens. Okay, back to the chapter!)

"Oh, you are? That was a pretty great evening. I'm just glad that I succeeded once again in being able to surprise you." Toby said, smiling softly at her. "You definitely did. I mean, especially since you sang another one of my favorite Blake songs." ("I'll Name the Dogs") Spencer said. "Well, you know that I'd do anything for you, you know that. I love surprising you. Also, you know that I could never get tired of getting dressed up and going to The Nurse's Ball with you, and getting to sing with you. It's always a great evening. Plus it's for such a great cause." Toby said.

"Yes it is. You know I could never get tired of it either. I love getting to sing with you. (They sang "I Run To You" by Lady A) I just can't believe that another Nurse's Ball has come and gone. Especially with the longer wait this time." Spencer said. "Yeah, I can't believe it either. It really did go by fast, didn't it?" Toby said and Spencer nodded. "It definitely feels that way. But I couldn't be more grateful for these moments with you." She said as she smiled softly at him, and then they heard the sound of Marion waking up from upstairs, through the baby monitor.

"I think someone's awake. You want to come with me?" Toby said and Spencer nodded. "Absolutely." She said, smiling softly at him and then they both stood up from the couch and headed up the stairs.
