Chapter Thirty Four

The next day

At Jason and Sam's penthouse

In Spoby's bedroom

"Good morning gorgeous."

"Good morning handsome."

Toby then gave her a kiss and she immediately kissed him back but before it got too heated she pulled away. "What is it?" Toby asked curiously. "As much as I would love to keep doing that we both need to get ready to leave, you need to work on our house and I need to go visit Nelle." Spencer said and Toby nodded. "Yeah I know, but we can still shower together right?" He asked smirked and she laughed. "Of course, I don't think I would be able to forgive myself later if I didn't shower with my amazing fiancé." She said smirking back at him and then Toby smiled and got off the bed and picked her up bridal style and carried her into their shower.

Twenty minutes later

"Are you sure you have to go?" Toby asked kissing Spencer's neck. "Yes I have to go and so do you Tobes." Spencer said and Toby frowned. "Yeah I know." He sighed and Spencer kissed his cheek. "Hey we'll be back together before you know it." She said.
"I know but I still hate being apart even if it's only a few hours." He said. "Me too." Spencer said. "I love you Spence." Toby said wrapping his arms around her waist gently.
"And I love you too Tobes." She said before passionately kissing him and then they both went upstairs and walked each other out the door.

At Nelle's apartment

"Hey Spence, come on in." Nelle smiled moving aside so Spencer could walk into the apartment. "Thanks for letting me come over, there's something I need to ask you." Spencer said as they both sat on the couch.

"Of course, what is it Spence?" Nelle asked curiously. "Well yesterday Toby and I met with Sharon again and we both think that she's the one that's trying to frame you, we think she killed Zack for his inheritance." Spencer said. "Oh my gosh, I definitely don't think you're wrong though but that's terrible if she actually did do it." Nelle said looking down. "Well I'm keeping my promise to you Nelle, I'm going to get to the bottom of this, but there's something I need from you." Spencer said and Nelle looked back up at her. "Anything." Nelle said.
"I need you to walk me through what happened again." Spencer said and Nelle nodded. " Had planned us a trip to Maine to celebrate our engagement, we had done a lot of ocean kayaking in Florida but we wanted to go further up north." Nelle started and Spencer nodded for her to continue. "We brought our own kayaks, great scenery, or so we thought, we were wrong." Nelle said trying to ignore the tears in her eyes and Spencer wiped them away with her thumb and then squeezed her hand comfortingly and Nelle gave her a small smile before continuing.

"Zack's kayak started to take on water..... he was a strong swimmer but the water was freezing and it was too much." She said taking a deep breath. "So he was in the water, did you try to go after him?" Spencer asked curiously and Nelle shook her head.

"I couldn't, I'm not a strong swimmer and the waves were way too strong.... Neither was of were wearing life jackets, which was stupid I know and I panicked I didn't know what to do." Nelle said. "Did you call 911?" Spencer asked. "We didn't take our phones, which was also stupid we left them on the shore." Nelle said letting a tear fall down her cheek and Spencer placed her hand on her shoulder comfortingly and waited for her to continue. "Zack started to flail around, doing everything he wasn't supposed to do, no one was around us- he couldn't stay afloat, he was hypothermic." Nelle said crying. "Did you try to save him at all?" Spencer asked.

"Of course I did Spence, I reached my oar out but he couldn't get it, I tried to encourage him to swim to me but he couldn't do it , I did everything that I possibly could. He came up a few more times.... Until he finally just went under and I've gone over it and over it in my mind wishing I had done something differently..... you know just anything that could have saved him." Nelle said continuing to cry and Spencer immediately wrapped her in a hug. "I didn't kill him Spence i-it was just a terrible accident! At least that's what I thought at the time." Nelle sobbed as Spencer rubbed her back comfortingly.
