Chapter Seventy Seven

The Next Day

At Jason and Sam's Penthouse

Jason and Sam were sitting on the couch with Spencer and Toby, they needed to fill them in on what happened yesterday.

“So what's going on? You said it was important, are Danny and Emily okay?” Spencer asked with concern in her voice. “Your siblings are fine don't worry, they're still sleeping actually.” Sam said. “Then what's wrong?” Spencer asked curiously. “Something happened yesterday.” Jason said. “What happened?” Spencer asked. “Yesterday after I got home from meeting you at Kelly's-” Sam started before pausing and taking a dependent breath and Jason grabbed her hand and gave it a comforting squeeze and Spencer was anxiously waiting for her to continue, Jason spoke up for her. “Your Mom was going through the mail and she found this envelope that had her name on it, but no return address so of course her curiosity got the better of her and she opened it.” Jason said. “What was in the envelope?” Spencer asked nervously and Sam took a dependent breath before making eye contact with her. “Do you remember how I told you that I used to be a con artist?” Sam asked and Spencer nodded. “And how I told you that there was this con that I used to run where I would marry rich older guys under fake aliases because I needed the money to help my brother Danny?” Sam said and Spencer nodded. “Yeah I remember, but what does that have to do with the envelope?” She asked curiously. “Well it turns out that inside the envelope was an obituary for Leland Powell, one of my “husbands” He just died recently apparently.” Sam said. “Wait, who in the world would send you his obituary? And why?” Spencer asked and Sam shook her head. “I-I don't know, I made sure that none of those aliases could be tied back to me, I don't know how anyone else would know, or why they would send this.” Sam said. “And there was no return address on the envelope?” Spencer asked. “Nope, but someone definitely wanted to get my attention.” Sam said. “But who? And why?” Spencer asked nervously. “We're going to figure that out.” Jason said and Spencer nodded before looking at Toby who hadn't said anything, he gently wrapped his arm around her and she laid her head on his shoulder and he gently kissed her forehead. “It'll be okay.”

Oscar was lying in his hospital bed asleep and Kim was sitting in the chair next to his bed and she held his hand and Drew was standing in the room behind Kim. “His first treatment really wiped him out.” Drew said. “Yeah.” Kim replied not taking her eyes off their son. “Dr. Flores said it would.” She said. “I know, I just wish we could jump to the point where uh… we know everything worked.” Drew said and Kim didn't respond, she was too busy keeping her eyes on Oscar, whose eyes started to open he gave her a small smile. “Oscar.” Kim said happily, the relief evident in her voice. “Mom?” Oscar asked softly and she nodded. “Yeah, I'm right here sweetie, so is your Dad. She said softly. “Dr. Flores said you did great.” Drew said. “Really?” Oscar asked. “Because I don't feel so we'll.” He said. “Well Dr. Flores said that you'd feel worse before you'd feel better.” Kim said before gently placing her hand on his forehead.

“So if I feel terrible then it's working, but if I felt good we'd be in trouble?” Oscar asked and Drew and Kim both giggled softly. “No I wouldn't say that, but uh outside of feeling like crap, how you doing?” Drew asked and Oscar did a thumbs up. “Hey that's good.” Drew said before the door opened and Elizabeth walked in. “Hey I see the patient is awake.” She said happily before closing the door behind her.

“Don't you mean the guinea pig?” Oscar asked and Elizabeth laughed. “Before you know it we're going to have you running in a giant wheel. How are you feeling? Are you in any pain?” She asked. “Um I don't know if I'd call it pain, just uh… feel tired and achy, like I have the flu.” Oscar said. “Okay, what about any headaches, nausea?” Elizabeth asked.
