A Week Later
At GH
“He's late.” Kim said as her and Drew were standing by the elevator door. “Five minutes late is actually early for teenagers.” Drew said.
“Yeah but it's not school, right I mean he's starting his medical trial right now and I-” Kim said before pausing her a second before she continued. “Unless he's decided not to do it. She said. “Okay, you want me to call him? I'll call him, does that make you feel better?” Drew asked before pulling his phone out of his pocket and Kim nodded, but before Drew could dial the elevator doors opened and Oscar stepped out and Kim breathed a sigh of relief.
“Look who showed up.” Drew said. “We were starting to wonder if you were going to show up or not.” Kim said. “Sorry, I was with Joss.” Oscar said. “Of course that's understandable, you know she could've came with you.” Kim said and Oscar nodded. “I know but I told her It'd probably be better if I did this alone, besides I know she'll be here with me as much as she can.” Oscar said. “Son you know you don't need to try and be strong for Joss's sake, she knows how hard this must be for you.” Drew said. “We all do, we're all here for you honey.” Kim said and Oscar nodded. “Let's just get this over with.” He said and Drew and Kim nodded and they went to go find Oscar's doctor.

“So uh… Oscar's procedure, is there anything different from the others in the trial?” Drew asked curiously. “Uh yes actually. The virus we're using on Oscar is newly engineered specifically for his type of cancer.” Oscar's doctor, Jenny Flores said. “So nobody knows if this will actually work?” Oscar asked.
“It's yielded positive results on test subjects in some cases... it's critical that everyone in this room understands there's no guarantees, but there's still hope.” Dr. Flores said and Oscar nodded. “And that's everything.” Kim said as she put her hand on Oscar's shoulder comfortingly.
“Oscar, this form confirms two things, you are understanding about the nature of this trial, and your agreement to take part in it. We can't move forward without your signature.” Dr. Flores said as Oscar looked down at the form she just handed him. “You do not have to participate in this study if you do not want to, if you decide to stop after it commences that's acceptable.” Oscar read aloud before looking back up at Jenny. “Won't it like mess up the study if I drop out in the middle?” Oscar asked.
“You know what? Maybe uh… don't worry about the study, this is about you.” Drew said.
“It's a given that not all participants will see a trial through.” Jenny said. “Because they decided not to?” Oscar asked. “Plenty of reasons. Now, there's no rush. Read through everything carefully and take time to think it through.” Jenny said. “I already have.” Oscar said before sitting on the bed to sign the form as Drew, Kim, and Dr. Flores watched.

In Their Bedroom
“What're you thinking about?” Toby asked Spencer as he played with her hair gently, his other hand resting on her baby bump, Spencer let out a small sigh.
“I'm just thinking about Oscar.” Spencer said and Toby nodded. “That's right the trial started today, Is there anything I can do to help distract you? Take your mind off it for a little bit?” He asked and Spencer shook her head. “Just being in your arms like this is helping me, more than you know.” She said and he kissed her forehead. “I completely understand what you're feeling, you know that. I just wish that there was something I could do to help you.” Toby said. “You don't have to do anything, just you being here for me is helping.” Spencer said smiling softly at him. “Well I'm glad, I'm just sorry that you have to go through this again.” Toby said and Spencer squeezed his hand gently. “Danny got his miracle, and you were there by my side, and I'm praying that Oscar gets a miracle too.” Spencer said and Toby nodded before kissing her forehead again.
