our episode opens up with the rangers eating at Bulk's sushi spot after a long day of training, only to be contacted by sensei who informs the six that the lanternzord has been stolen. the six then panic and notice a guy in a black ninja suit running off with the lanternzord. the six give chase only for the six to lose the guy. the six then split up to look for the lanternzord, right before we cut back to Akuma palace where we see Serrator return to the palace much to the surprise of lord Ashura, who thought the rangers destroyed him. Serrator then tells his boss that he retreated before the rangers escaped and assures lord Ashura that the pieces to his master plan are slowly but surely falling into place before heading downstairs towards the dungeon only to notice that his daughter is not in his cell. angry that she has escaped, he summons a monster named Skullcloud and orders him to go to the surface world and search for her. we then cut to a montage of the rangers searching all over town for the lanternzord thief, right before we cut to Skullcloud confronting the mysterious guy in the ninja suit who tells the monster that he can't have him before escaping, eventually bumping into Sadie, whom of which swipes the lanternzord from the thief's hand before demanding him to show his face. he then takes his ninja mask off revealing it not to be a guy, but a girl: Nocturna, in her human form of course. Sadie is shocked by this, asking what she's doing here as she thought she was captured. Nocturna explains by telling her that she escaped from prison and that she's being hunted by one of her father's monsters and that she wanted to use the lanternzord's symbol power to destroy her father once and for all. she then tells Nocturna it's no use, as an Akuma cannot use symbol power due to their evil nature. Nocturna then reminds Sadie that she's not pure Akuma and that she's part human, which Sadie points out is the reason why she may have some good inside her. Sadie is then contacted by Spike who informs her that they're tracking a monster at the abandoned warehouse district, followed by Sadie morphing and hopping on her samurai cycle, Nocturna wishing her good luck. we then cut to the six rangers arriving on the scene on their samurai cycles before hopping off to confront the monster (cue shinkenger episode 29 fight). the rangers are overpowered by Skullcloud's duplication ability, however before he can finish the six of them off Nocturna arrives on the scene using the lanternzord's light power which weakens Skullcloud forcing him to retreat. Sadie thanks Nocturna for saving her, even though the others don't trust her. Nocturna then reminds Sadie that they're still not friends as she's still loyal to lord Ashura, right before she takes off with the lanternzord. we then cut back to the dojo where Sadie informs sensei of the fact that Nocturna has the lanternzord and that she plans on taking back the lanternzord by reasoning with her, sensei warning her that she cannot be reasoned with that easily. Sadie however doesn't listen and takes off anyway, right before we cut to Nocturna in her human form sitting on the bench next to the lanternzord, only for Sadie to sit down next to her followed by Nocturna asking her why would a lowly human show kindness towards an Akuma like her. Sadie then tells her that deep down underneath that cold Akuma exterior she sees goodness inside of her, asking her to give back the lanternzord so that they can use it do take down Skullcloud once and for all. Nocturna agrees to give back the lanternzord and just in time, Sadie contacting Kenji to inform him that she got the lanternzord back only for Kenji to warn her that Skullcloud has been sighted in downtown stone canyon, followed by the other five rangers showing up to re-unite with Sadie, followed by Nocturna informing the six that the monster is after her, prompting the six to pull out their morphers before a pair of marauders grab Nocturna and pull her into the netherworld. Skullcloud arrives on the scene only to be confronted by the six rangers followed by Sadie pulling out the black box to go super samurai mode and finish off Skullcloud with a super sky slash. after that, we cut to Nocturna being thrown back in the dungeon where Serrator  forces her to play her shamisen to make Skullcloud grow. the rangers then summon the samurai master megazord and the lanternzord battle mode (cue shinkenger episode 29 megazord fight). after the monster is destroyed with the spirit cannon, we cut back to the rangers eating at Bulk's sushi spot ending our episode with Sadie feeling bad for not being able to save Nocturna.
