Our episode opens up at Akuma palace where Deker and Nocturna have a romantic moment before the two start conspiring about how to overthrow lord Ashura. Deker suggests reviving admiral Serrator, however Nocturna is disgusted by this telling him that she would rather not see her father again, as she hates him. Deker then asks Nocturna why, and she explains that it's complicated. Octomancer overhears this and informs lord Ashura, whom of which summons a group of marauders to attack the two. Deker and Nocturna leap out of the palace's balcony and escape to the surface world where the two transform into their human forms in order to blend in. lord Ashura is angered that they got away, but mostly because he needs Nocturna's music in order to make his monsters grow. Octomancer then summons a monster named Rhinophant who has the ability to put others to sleep and eat dreams before lord Ashura orders him to go to the human world and find Nocturna and his son. after that, we cut back to the dojo where Kenji is practicing his sword techniques like crazy, followed by Kenji nearly passing out from pushing his body to its limits. sensei Nobu tries to tell Kenji to get some rest, followed by Kenji refusing saying that he needs to surpass Deker so that he can defeat him once and for all, followed by sensei Nobu smacking his nephew upside the head with his shinai and reminds him that the way of the samurai is about honor and discipline, not senseless revenge. Kenji then hands sensei the piece of tattered fabric he found last episode, explaining to his uncle he found it in the ruins of his old home in Hokkaido. sensei Nobu recognizes it as fabric from grandpa Mako's favorite kimono, followed by Kenji explaining that he wants to teach lord Ashura the pain of losing a family member by destroying one of his own, which is why he is obsessed with taking down Deker. Kenji turns his back on sensei who warns him that if he chooses to stray down this dark path there will be no stopping it, revenge will consume you and you'll stoop to the same level as the Akuma. Kenji then tells him that it's a risk he's willing to take if it means destroying the Akuma clan once and for all and bringing honor to his family name. we then cut to Nocturna eating at Bulk's sushi spot in an attempt to lay low until Rhinophant comes barging into the restaurant and gasses Bulk causing him to fall asleep. Nocturna then turns into monster form and carries Bulk over her shoulder in attempt to bring him to safety and runs out of the restaurant with Rhinophant chasing after her while exclaiming that lord Ashura wants her back. the five core rangers arrive on their samurai cycles which manage to blast the monster back before the rangers hop off and fight the monster on foot while Nocturna tries to get Bulk to safety much to the ranger's confusion before Spike the gold ranger arrives on his samurai cycle to confront the monster, only for Rhinophant to gas him causing him to de-morph and fall asleep. the monster then opens a portal in Spike's body telling the rangers to have sweet dreams for him to eat, a phrase which reminds Kenji of a folktale grandpa Mako used to tell him. we then cut to Sadie arriving at the forest on her samurai cycle to confront Nocturna who tells her to leave Bulk alone, only for a portal to open in Bulk's body and Rhinophant to come out, gassing both Sadie and Nocturna causing them to fall asleep and tumble down a hill with Rhinophant entering the dream world to feast on their precious hopes and desires. after that, we cut to Kenji bringing the sleeping Spike to the dojo where sensei Nobu puts his fingers on Spike's forehead and senses that he is still alive, however his mind is trapped in the dream world, the work of a Baku. Kenji recognizes the Baku as a Japanese spirit that eats dreams, as he heard it in a folktale that grandpa Mako used to tell him all the time when he was a child. Oscar and Nigel are both freaked out by this, meaning that Sadie could be lost forever (which worries Kenji). sensei then uses his symbol power to write the kanji for "dream" which opens a portal to the dream world, followed by Oscar and Nigel fighting over who should go followed by Kenji pushing the two into the portal before it closes. Nigel and Oscar then arrive in the dream world where they bump into Bulk's younger 90s self who bullies the two into giving him their lunch money, only to be stopped by police officer Bulk who tells his bully self he is under arrest. we then see a THIRD Bulk show up: billionaire Bulk, who is the owner of his own million-dollar five-star sushi restaurant in Tokyo (aka what Bulk wishes he could be in the future). the two then ask what's going on before a FOURTH Bulk shows up: chimpanzee Bulk. the four Bulks however are confronted by Rhinophant, followed buy Spike the HERO (wearing his fake home-made costume from "Spiked") standing in his way and telling the evil-doer to leave his uncle Bulks alone. Nigel then warns Spike to get out of the way as this isn't real it's a dream and that he needs to wake up. the monster is about to eat Spike and the two rangers push him out of the way and morph to confront the monster. we then cut to Sadie in the dream world at an anime fan convention wearing a magical girl cosplay with a kitty plushie only to see a dark cloud covering the area and the convention setting disappears only for Sadie to end up in a setting that looks like she's in ancient japan and watches as a mother plays a familiar tune to her young daughter. she then realizes that the tune is the same one that Nocturna uses to make the monsters grow and recognizes the child as a young Nocturna. we then see a group of marauders invade their home along with admiral Serrator, who is here to reclaim what is rightfully his. the mother then retaliates by telling him that he'll never get his hands on her. we then cut to Nigel and Oscar trying to fight off the monster as best they can right before we cut back to Nocturna's dream where we see young Nocturna being dragged away by Serrator while her mother lies there dead. Nocturna manages to yank free and grab her dead mother's instrument and starts grieving, only for lord Ashura to show up and hold his sword up to admiral Serrator's neck, telling him that he's had enough with his treachery and that he would be glad to finally put him out of his misery. Serrator then grabs young Nocturna and begs for him to spare him and his daughter. Ashura is taken aback by this, followed by him scolding Serrator for reproducing with a human, the mortal enemy of the Akuma. Serrator then calls out lord Ashura for being a hypocrite however before he can mention Deker lord Ashura stabs him with his sword and turns him into stone followed by lord Ashura taking young Nocturna under his wing. we then cut back to Rhinophant escaping into the real world through Bulk while Nigel and Oscar follow suit and to corner the monster, slicing off his gassing hand. this ends up waking up all the people who were gassed, and just in time since giant marauders and croclams start attacking the city. Kenji and Spike then form the samurai master megazord (cue shinkenger episode 25 megazord fight). we then cut to Sadie noticing Nocturna in human form crying while playing that familiar tune on her shamisen, Sadie realizing that the tune she plays to make the monsters grow is actually the song her mother played to her when she was a child. Nocturna then holds her blade up to Sadie's neck and demands her to tell how she knows about her backstory, all the while Ava is looking for Sadie which catches Nocturna's attention. we then cut back to the samurai master megazord finishing off the giant footsoldiers with the spirit cannon. we then cut back to Nigel and Oscar fighting off the monster who manages to escape before we cut to back to Sadie trying to reason with Nocturna, believing that deep down she's a good person and that she doesn't have to work for lord Ashura. Nocturna then retaliates by saying that lord Ashura saved her life from her literal monster of a father and that she owes her entire life to him. however before she can finish off Sadie Ava shows up and blocks her blade with her spiral sword only for Ava to get knocked back and de-morph. after that, we cut to Kenji and Spike laying exhausted after their megazord battle, only to be confronted by Deker who challenges him to a duel to the death ending our episode on a cliffhanger.
