Chapter 9

"There's the car rental place the guy told me about. Let's see what they have to rent."

The car rental man saw them coming in, they were a mess. He stared at them and reluctantly asks, "What can I do for you?"

"We are looking for a luxury car." His stare got intense, like he was wasting his time talking to them.

Quite rudely he informs them. "There is an SUV available and a Mercedes."

"Give me the SUV. I need something with leg room."

"If you want the car, we need a credit card and a valid license. You do know that you have to return the car clean, not covered in dirt. The gas tank has to be full also or there will be a charged placed on the credit card."

"I understand, your car will be clean when we return it. Here you go." Charley handed him his credit card.

After running the card the man looked surprised and handed the card back. "Everything is fine. I need to know how long you want to rent the car for."

"Two days should be enough. If I need it longer, I will contact you." He handed Charley the keys and led them to the car.

"That took longer than I thought it would. We have to buy some clothes and get those damn rooms." Charley was stressing.

"Why? He is your brother. You don't need to dress up for family."

"My brother hates the fact I drive truck. Look, Little one, my brother is the Alpha of a very rich pack, he thinks the job is beneath me. I am his little brother; he thinks he should take care of me. If he sees me looking like this he will worry. Do you understand?"

"I guess so. I have some money to buy my own clothes. I also want to help pay for the car rental. You wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for me." She reached down and took off her shoe. "I have worked for the pack for six years. They didn't pay a lot, but I saved most of it."

"Little one, I don't need your money. I actually have more money than any one person could use in two lifetimes."

"That doesn't mean I should sponge off of you. I already owe you so much."

"If that is how you feel then call it part of your pay for helping me. Now put on your shoe we have to get you a dress." He looks at Melody as she was taking her money out of her shoe. "I don't know who taught you to hide your money like that, but it is original."

"My friend Bonnie's mother. She is a smart person."

"You need a dress, and I need a suite. I hate suites."

"I hate dresses."

"That is a nice show room, want to check it out?"

"It all looks nice to me, Charley. If you like it, then it's good enough for me."

The sales lady had the same look on her face as the car rental man had. "Is there something in particular you are looking for?"

"Can we see that dress in the window in her size and a pair of matching shoes."

"Do you want heals?"

Melody shook her head immediately. "I don't know how to walk in heals."

The woman smiled. "No heals then. Now you said you want a suite. A formal suite or a sports jacket and turtleneck? Also, what color?"

"Blue to match her dress, or something that goes with it. You know more about clothes then we do, you pick."

She measured his chest and arm length. "I don't know if we have anything in your size. We have dress pants in your size and dress shirts, not any jackets."

"The shirt and pants are good enough we don't have a lot of time."

She got nervous. "I have to ask for payment before you try them on. Let's just say you are not presentable with what you are wearing." Melody looked at herself and saw how dirty they were. All the running in the woods and sleeping in the truck they didn't get cleaned up.

"Here." Charley handed her his card. "As soon as we are done here, we have to get the rooms and get cleaned up. She is right we are a mess."

Melody almost falls as Charley rushes them out the door. "Over there is a Best Western. Do you think he will like that one?"

He squealed the tires as he turned the wheel and crossed three lanes to park in front of the Hotel. "This place will be fine. If he doesn't like it, he can grumble and go home upset."

Melody got used to the looks from the salespeople, the receptionist had the same kind of expression as the other two places. "Ma'am, we need three rooms next to each other."

"We have open rooms on the third floor. Rooms 312, 314, and 316." He passed her his credit card just like the last two places. Charley ran up the stairs with Melody as the receptionist watched them, thinking they were crazy.

Melody headed to the bathroom when she got in the room. After looking at herself in the mirror she realized how bad they actually looked. She complains to Harmony. 'My hair looks like a bird's nest.'

'That's what happens when you run in the woods and don't brush your hair.'

'Thanks for the advice. Harmony, do you think he will like us? I mean this will be our chance to start over. Maybe find a pack that wants us.'

'Don't worry about anything. Everything will work out for us.' Melody thought about how lucky she was to have found Charley.

Harmony seeing her thoughts smiles. 'We are lucky he is a good man. Very caring.' Charley towers over most people at six foot four. His muscular built was like the sculptures in a museum, even a chiseled jaw. The little gray at his temples and pepper though his hair make him look mature. His size and expressions make him appear mean, but he is a big softy. When he stops acting like a bad ass, he shows his caring, at least about Melody. She has only known this man for three days and she feels safe with him. A feeling she hasn't had for eight yours, ever since her mother left.

'Look at this dress, it is so nice. Other than the dress I got from Bonnie for my birthday it is the prettiest one I have ever had. I couldn't even bring the dress with me, I only got to wear it once.'

'Don't let this get you down. Your life will get better.'

'You're right, Harmony. I shouldn't complain, things could have been worse. I didn't have the love from anyone or the best care, but I was fed and had some clothes and went to school.' Melody began to remember how the other kids pushed her around and called her names. 'I wasn't left to live in the dungeons.'

'Stop letting those people get in your head. Look at what is happening and what can happen.'

'My nerves are getting to me. What if his brother turns me in to my old pack. I'll be in the dungeons for sure. They will never take a chance and let me out.'

'You have Charley and me now, stop all this worrying. I can fight, they won't get us, I promise. Look at you, you're not even dressed yet. Hurry up and get finished. You want to look nice to impress his brother.'

'I'm going.' The dress is on, and she is cute in the dress, she braided her long hair that fell straight down her back stopping at her butt. Melody checked her makeup seeing there wasn't much there and decided not to wear any at all. 'Goddess, please let him like me. Time to go, Harmony, this is the best I can do.' When she opened the door Charley was standing there. "You clean up nice, sir." Melody teases as she looks up at his handsome face.

"Well thank you, Miss. I'd have to say that you are looking mighty purdy young lady." His cowboy accent is not that good, but his attempt was cute they both laughed. "Your carriage awaits my lady." The airport is only fifteen minutes down the road. Melody couldn't help fidgeting in her seat. "Calm down, it will be fine one way or the other. I will be right here with you."

Melody looks at Charley with such gratitude, "Thanks a lot, Charley. I don't want you to give up your pack though. It wouldn't be fair to you, so this has to work."
