Chapter 78
"Good morning, Alpha Kevin. We are here to give you your next treatment. Bonnie, will you help me roll the alpha over please?"
Bonnie remembers what her alpha was like, 'This is not the alpha I knew growing up. This man is weak and looks so bad.' "Are you comfortable, Alpha?"
"Yes, this is good."
Melody gave him a gentle smile. "Alpha, I have to admit you are reacting to the treatment faster than anyone I have treated before. If you keep this up, you might be able to go home in no time." Anthony wants Melody to make his treatment a little faster. She knows having him around has been so much harder than she thought, and she already knew it was going to be hard.
"Are you trying to get rid of me, Melody?" Alpha Kevin is joking with the two women. Feeling more like his old self for the first time in quite a while.
"Now, Alpha, would I let Melody send my favorite Alpha away on me."
"Wait, no way. He is my favorite Alpha, and I am not sharing him." Melody sticks her tongue out at Bonnie. Kevin clapped his hands grinning at the two of them. "Even grown up the two of you haven' t changed." The two of them were happy to see their old Alpha laughing and happy.
Drew entered his father's room right after they left. Melody notices him everywhere they go the last few days. They aren't doing anything wrong, but it feels like her world is being spied on. "Bonnie, have you noticed how we keep running into Drew lately? His speech a few days ago sounded good but I don't know."
"I don't know either. It sounded good, but I don't trust him as far as I can throw him."
"I keep thinking about what Papa Charley said about not forgiving so easy and to watch out for lies."
Bonnie tilted her head side to side. "That sounds like good advice."
"Anthony has not said anything yet about what he thinks about Drew's speech. He seems to be losing it with them. I heard him giving the guards orders, he is afraid they are going to start something."
"Can you blame him? They have been looking around and acting strange. Eric is still staring at me. Branden noticed it and is having a hard time with his temper and his wolf's."
"Anthony is even more protective now that I am pregnant. The other guys teasing him is also not helping. I wish they would stop busting his chops."
"What are the guys saying?" Bonnie was is always nosey.
"We had all girls last time. He was happy until Kody started. He is getting picked on by the other men that he can't have a boy. They pissed him off one time so bad, he came home cranky, telling me that I had to get pregnant right then. The triplets were only six months old. I had to promise to get pregnant when they were a year old to stop him from trying right then."
Bonnie chuckled at the way Melody said it and the face she made. "What did they say that got him that upset?"
"They had the nerve to tell him that Wyatt was a fluke, and he can't make boys. He was lucky he got one boy, so he can stop trying or he would end up with an all girls' softball team. I can't believe we are doing this again. After that night of promising to give him another pup when they were a year I panicked. It took weeks to talk him into waiting until they were two, then that damn concert."
"I can't believe you are crazy enough to have that many kids. Branden will be lucky if he has one. I liked my life being an only child, where I am being spoiled and getting all the attention. I want that for my child."
"I know he wants another son. He loves Wyatt, claiming him as his own. Having all girls hurt his ego, maybe even his pride."
The rest of the afternoon was less stressful, the minute Drew and the rest of them went out of the pack.
The next morning was even busier than when Kevin got there. "Good morning, Bethanie. I need you to help with the six new patients. Bonnie and I are starting our rounds, when we are done can you take blood samples from each one. Test them to see what their blood count is. We need to know how bad the cancer is in each of them."
"Mind link me when you are done, I will start drawing their blood."
Melody is glad to be doing her last patient for the day. "Alpha Kevin, how are you today?"
"I am starting to feel like my old self again."
"It is time for another treatment, I need you to lay on your stomach like the last few times. Do you need any help?"
"I can do it myself; I am very happy to say."
Melody felt bad he should have been much better by now but when he had to wait three weeks to come here it weakened him. "When I am done with this treatment we need to give you another shot. Bonnie will be back with it shortly." After this treatment he was able to stand and walk a few steps with Melody's and Bonnie's help. They never saw their old Alpha this happy.
Alpha Kevin was in a good mood until he thought about the past, with that he became sad. "You both are so kind helping me. This old man doesn't deserve it. I am truly sorry for letting you down, Mel. Being the Alpha, I should have stepped in. I didn't."
Melody, not wanting to talk about any of it, gave him a short answer. "It is the past; we are not looking back only walking forward."
"Ok, Melody, if that's the way you want it."
"Bonnie, he was the last patient on this rotation, I am going home for lunch."
"You look tired take it easy and I'll see you later. If you want, I can cover the afternoon. You don't see patients only do paperwork."
"I might take you up on that. The meeting with the construction workers on the extension for the hospital and the orphanage is right after my shift. If I take the afternoon off, I can make sure to have all the papers together."
"I was proud of our Alpha when he took in the other pack's orphans. Not a lot of packs do things like that."
"I have a very special mate; the Moon Goddess truly blessed me. I saw his printout on the statis of orphaned wolves and the numbers are staggering. Mom and Amanda have been working with the young ones. Amanda is giving them violin lessons. I go three nights to help, I wish I had more time though."
"Laurie told me you took the twins with you to play with the other pups. Stop feeling bad about the time you spend there. Being pregnant and having your workload, that is a lot. Give yourself a break."
"They had a ball there. I'm really considering taking you up on your offer. I have to start getting some sleep."
"Go for it. I will check on you later."
"I better stop and tell Anthony, or he will worry. He has been so uptight." The two guards follow Melody to Anthony's office. "It is lunch time why don't you two get something to eat I am going to be right here."
Both guards hesitate then head into the kitchen. Melody knocked on his door and didn't get an answer. Her luck had run out, Drew was right behind her.
"Hello Luna, I didn't expect to see you here."
"I didn't expect to see you either. While you are here, I should tell you your father took two steps today and with a little help he will be walking on his own soon. You need to go see him he is very happy."
"He is up and walking, wow that is so great. Can I talk to you about something else?"
