Chapter 20

The two took off jogging to Charley's house, knowing Melody was cold. "The place isn't very big, but it should be big enough for the two of us." His house had a log cabin style, done with dark rich wood trim that blended well with the natural wood log walls. Inside, the fire made the house feel warm and cozy.

"Charley, this house is so homey and comfortable."

"Upstairs has three bathrooms, mine has an ensuite, there is another bathroom next to the other two bedrooms. There should be enough room for your clothes, they both have walk in closets."

"I don't have that many clothes, don't worry about it."

"We're going to work on that. For now, this is the living room. You can see the fireplace and the TV above it has internet. Over there is the dining room. It isn't big but there is just the two of us. You can check out the kitchen later."

Melody nodded. "Where do you want me to sleep?"

"Take the bedroom at the end of the hall. It is right next to the bathroom. Mine is the first one on the right. You should settle in and then we will get any personal items you need."

"Is it alright if I check out the frig, I am hungry."

"This is your house, you don't have to ask my permission to get food."

Charley headed upstairs as Melody went into the kitchen. The room was clean and bright with white cabinets and marble counter tops that had gray swirls giving the room elegance. 'I will enjoy cooking in this kitchen.'

Harmony grumbled. 'We are hungry, find something to eat.'

'You are always hungry.' Melody went in the frig and found all kinds of food. Needing to unpack and get ready for school in the morning she grabbed an apple and ran to see her room.

"Charley, it is getting late, you have to show me where the school is so I can find it in the morning." She hollered as she walked down the hall.

"We also have to go to the Alpha's office to get your transcripts."

"What if we do our running now and unpack when we get back?"

"That makes sense, Little one. Here take one of my old jackets until we get you one of your own. Let's go to the Alpha's office first then we can hit the stores."

"I'm coming. The room is beautiful, that is a nice color on the walls. What is it called?"

"Rose teal. My wife picked it out for the baby girl we were having. I have never had the heart to change it."

"I'm glad you didn't. It is now my favorite color."

"Catch." He threw a coat to her. "We have to get you a warm coat as soon as we get to the store."

"That reminds me this is yours." She handed him some money. "It is the change from shopping in Texas. I left it in with the clothes and forgot to give it to you."

"You keep it. Use it for your school lunches. I will give you my card to buy whatever else you need for school. That includes more clothes."

"I don't need any more clothes, that is plenty for me. I have some money and can get a job to pay my way. I have been paying my way for years."

Charley gets stern, "Well, not anymore. I am paying for it now. Before you argue, remember that is what fathers do." Charley slips on his jacket. "Are you ready yet?"

Melody didn't take a good look at the pack house when they pulled up to it earlier. Seeing it now surprised her. It was very large and elegant. Much like the pack house at her old pack. 'What if they are like my old pack and are so stuck up.'
