Chapter 24

A young man walked in. "Well, old man I'm home to stay." He walked over to the desk and saw Charley. "Hey Uncle Charley, Dad didn't tell me you were here." Both of the men stood to shake his hand. "Since when do we shake hands." He took another step and hugged his father, then his uncle. "I haven't seen you in a long time. When did you get back Uncle Charley?"

"A few weeks ago. Your old man talked me into returning for good. Tell me, how have you been?"

"That is the best news I heard in a while. You can keep him." He pointed to his father. "Out of my hair when I take over."

"Why you piss ant." Cameron swatted his back. "I plan on taking your uncle fishing and enjoying my retirement."

"I have to unpack so you two enjoy your talk and I will see later." When he opened the door, he heard the sound of the piano playing. "Someone took mom's place playing for the pack? She is good, do I know her?"

Cameron puts his hand on Anthony's shoulder, "That son is your uncle's new best friend, Melody."

He whistled. "Uncle Charley got himself a girl. Good for you."

"You got it all wrong." Charley was embarrassed.

Cameron chuckled, "She's a very special young lady. I would like you to meet her."

"Why don't you introduce us now. I am on my way out." The three walked out to the living room. Melody was sitting at the piano playing, not paying them any attention. Where they stopped at the entrance to the room Anthony could see how beautiful she was. He sniffed the air and looked right at her. She had turned to look at him, their eyes met. Both said at the same time "Mate." The rest of the room became very quiet.

"Wait what did the two of you say?" Cameron was confused and Charley stood there dumb struck. "Are you sure son?"

"Dad, she is my mate. You are acting like this isn't a good thing."

Cameron, not sure what to say about things, decided to go back to his office. "The four of us need to talk in private. Let's go back to my office."

Melody, who was still sitting at the piano, wasn't moving. "Little one, come with us." Charley put his arm around her and introduced her to Anthony. "This is my daughter." The second Melody heard him introduce her as his daughter, her eyes began to water. The pride and love he held for her was written all over his face. Her love for him at that moment was just as clear on her face.

Anthony was horrified. "Wait a minute! You got to be kidding, the Moon Goddess mated me to my cousin."

"No! No!" Charley quickly went to explain. "I met her, and she needed a family, so I took her in."

The relief Anthony felt was overwhelming. "I can deal with that. Uncle Charley, don't scare me like that again."

The alpha came out in Cameron. "Bethanie, head up to your room, you can finish your lesson later. Melody needs to come with us right now."

Anthony smiled at Melody, greeting her with affection. Melody though greeted him with complete fear. He can see it in the tense way she is standing. 'Harmony, the Moon Goddess doesn't like me at all. How could she give me another alpha for a mate. We both know he won't want us or our pups.'

'I don't know why she is doing this, I don't believe she wants to hurt us. You should trust the bond.'

'I did that last time and where did that get me.' Harmony gave up trying to convince her and stayed quiet waiting to find out how things were going to go.

Melody whispered to Charley. "This is a little hard to do after last time. I don't want to go with you." Melody was shaking so bad Charley didn't push her to go into the office.

He gave her a side hug hoping it helped her, "You can go home, or go spend time with Bethanie. I'll call you after things are settled."

Melody shrugged, as she left the pack house. "Where is she going?"

"She is going to the house, Anthony. Why don't we talk first then see what you want to do."

'We should pack and get ready to leave. I am sorry for doing this to you, Harmony.'

'Why are you packing?'

'He is the future alpha of this pack. He isn't going to want to watch his mate get a big belly and the ones inside not be his. He is going to throw us out.'

'You don't know that for sure.'

'Who are we kidding, I am not good enough. This time we will be on our own. I can't ask Charley to leave his pack. You can see he is happy here and has so many friends and family.'

'I don't think mate is going to reject us.'

'Harmony, stop getting your hopes up. It hurts so much worse when you are let down, I know.'

Harmony feels her pain and sees how much the last mate hurt her. 'We will be fine on our own, I will keep us safe.' They head in the house to start packing.

Alpha Cameron sits in his chair as Charley and Anthony sat across from him. "I don't understand what is going on, Father. I need to talk to my mate. She was scared of me for some reason, and I have to fix it."

"Anthony, this would go so much faster and easier if you would calm down."

"I can't promise that, Uncle Charley. I just want to see her, so let's get this over with."

"Melody has a story that comes with her. You need to understand what happened to her and the unique situation that brought her here, before you accept her." You could hear the silent plea in Charley's voice as he said that. He wants his nephew to accept her so badly. She might not survive another rejection.

"I am not going to like this am I?"

"Son, you should hear the whole story. We'll go from there with whatever you decide. First of all, I want you to know I like Melody. She is kind, caring, and doesn't judge people. The three weeks she has been here, everyone she met has become her friend. They all feel like she has always been here."

"That is unusual for a newcomer to be accepted that fast. So why are you so worried I wouldn't accept her?"
