Ethan kept thinking about his encounter with Nico. He, for the first time in a few years, really thought about all his moments with Selina, and the feelings he had for her.
The more he thought, the less he seemed to understand. He had always thought that he knew a lot about her, but he couldn't answer a single basic answer about her.
How could you love someone who you don't know?
The conversations around him seemed burry, turning to background noise as he thought more and more.
He remembered feeling jealous, seeing Beckondorf and Selina together, but it didn't seem right. He felt jealous, but not because Beckondorf's arms were around Selina, and he was kissing her, no, it was because he wanted to feel loved as well.
Maybe a part of him thought he loved her because he thought that she loved him too. Coming from a neglectful family, he had never had anyone to really seek comfort in, so it made sense that he was jealous of it.
Thinking back, he didn't think that anyone had ever loved him, not really, at least. Not his father, not his mother, not his sister, not Luke, not Selina. No one.
It was a depressing thought, but he didn't expect anything different from it.
The only time he had ever felt anything remotely close to that was when he was a kid. And ironically, it was with Drew.
Oh how the times have changed.
Though their innocent play dates were set up by their parents, Drew had always wanted to make her father proud, so for the most part, she played along.
But that's all it was.. a game.
Now that he really thought properly, the last time he had genuinely liked someone was also when he hung out with Drew.
He had harbored a crush back then, and it wasn't surprising either. Whether he liked to admit it or not, Drew was really pretty. Though, her attitude took her down from a 10 to a 3.
He hated that he still felt lingering attraction towards her, maybe even more since his little reflection.
His eyes met her's from across the vicinity, and for the first time in a really, really long time, he didn't return the scowl that he gave her. He instead just stared at her, confused.
I cannot like her.
Liking someone that he could never have was better than liking someone like Drew in his eyes. For years, she was the sole reason for his torment, and she was also the epitome of his corruption.
If she hadn't spread lies about him, he would've had friends. If he had friends, he wouldn't have joined Luke's cause.
It was all her fault.
