"It's 6am I'm so far away from you. I don't wanna let you down. What am I supposed to do?"

I formally apologize to everyone reading this, but this is what becoming psychologically distanced looks like.

***

The couple hasn't spoken much since their little sit-down, and it was really worrying Annabeth.

Percy tried not to show it but he was really affected by it all.

Everyone felt bad too. Harry had grown slightly distant since Sirius's death, which was understandable, but still stung.

School had already ended and everyone had been on their merry way back home.

Jason couldn't pull the same thing he had last year, which was slightly disappointing, but he couldn't let Reyna lead alone again.

Percy and Annabeth were at camp, and their odd behaviours had really piqued the other campers' interests.

It wasn't really like Percy and Annabeth weren't hanging out anymore, it was more like, Percy was less clingy and Annabeth was too prideful to be too clingy so they just stayed in this constant stalemate.

It was scary how something that brought so much joy to them could be ripped away so easily.

On one of those nights, Annabeth had snuck into Percy's room, wanting to talk.

She felt bad for waking him up so often, but she had never seen him so tired before until that night.

He looked restless, which confused Annabeth. Even in the moonlight, she could clearly see the faint bags that hadn't been there that morning.

"Annabeth," he said.

She smiled slightly, "I couldn't sleep."

"I couldn't either," he said.

Silence filled the air as the two lovers looked at each other.

"When did this happen?" Annabeth asked.

Percy looked at her, confused. "When did what happen?"

"This," she motioned between he two of them. "Percy, we're growing apart."

Percy's face contorted with guilt and Annabeth spotted it immediately.

"Do you love me?" She asked.

"Of course I do," he said but his voice was small, almost as if he didn't want to say it, which hurt her more.

She pushed all her thoughts away, nodding. "Okay. I believe you."

She held onto whatever she could, not wanting to end what they had, even if they didn't have anything anymore. At least, that's what Annabeth believed.
