Throughout history, countless legends have surrounded the Kraken. But what exactly is the Kraken?
APPEARANCE
Scientifically, the Kraken would be classified as a cephalopod, a class that includes squids, octopuses, and cuttlefish. Its most striking features include a squid-like mantle that allows for graceful movement through the depths of the ocean and eight incredibly long and muscular tentacles. Each tentacle is lined with suction cups, enhanced by serrated teeth, providing a formidable grip on its prey. Additionally, the Kraken has two longer forearms that are capable of slicing through the hulls of ships as if they were made of paper. Unlike other cephalopods that have parrot-like beaks for eating, the Kraken possesses a large, maw-like mouth surrounded by sharp fangs, situated beneath its four eyes, which offer a wide range of vision.
While many depictions of the Kraken portray it as being comparable in size to several small islands, its actual length is around 165 feet.
HABITAT & SIGNS OF INCOMING ATTACK
This mythical creature is said to inhabit the depths of the North Atlantic Ocean and is deeply rooted in folklore and ancient seafaring tales. Sailors of old often shared stories of its terrifying presence lurking in the crushing darkness, instilling fear in both ocean dwellers and land lovers.
There are several telltale signs that the Kraken may be approaching. One of the first indicators is an unusually high catch of fish; this occurs because the Kraken is scaring the fish up to the surface, allowing fishermen to experience an unexpected bounty. Additionally, sailors might feel a disconcerting sensation as their ships strike what seems to be a hidden reef or unseen obstruction.
HUNTING TACTICS
In terms of hunting strategies, we can draw parallels with another cephalopod, the giant squid.

The giant squid employs a stealthy approach, remaining perfectly still in the dark depths of the ocean while waiting patiently for unsuspecting prey to swim within reach of its long, dangling tentacles. When the moment is right, it strikes with lightning speed, using the suction cups on its tentacles to capture its meal. It would be highly likely that the Kraken uses a similar hunting methodology; however, its preferred targets are humanoids.
SINKING SHIPS
The Kraken is said to possess the strength to pull entire ships beneath the waves, an action that would require immense force.
To understand how strong the Kraken must be to achieve such a feat, we can apply Archimedes' principle, which states that the buoyant force acting on a submerged object is equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces. By calculating the gross tonnage of a typical ship, multiplying it by the density of seawater and the force of gravity, and then subtracting the weight of the ship itself, we can estimate the force required for the Kraken to drag a vessel underwater.
To drag down a regular-sized ship beneath the ocean, the Kraken would need to exert a force of approximately 400,000 kilograms. In simpler terms, the Kraken is incredibly strong.
INTELLIGENCE
In addition to its immense strength, the Kraken would exhibit remarkable intelligence, rivaling that of other highly evolved cephalopods. This creature would have a keen sense of pattern recognition, allowing it to discern shapes and movements in its environment with extraordinary acuity. Its mastery of color manipulation would enable it to seamlessly blend into various marine backgrounds, using intricate chromatophores to mimic the hues and textures of coral reefs or the shifting tides. Furthermore, the Kraken's cognitive skills would extend to problem-solving capabilities, demonstrating a capacity to navigate complex situations, such as finding its way through intricate underwater landscapes despite its immense size.
The Kraken is at its most dangerous when angered and will actively seek out vengeance on those that managed to inflict serious damage such as blowing off a tentacle.
WHAT HAS IT BEEN DOING?
The Kraken has been dormant for thousands of years, even during the extinction of all land mammals including its main source of food, humans. But now with Dark Squid awakening it and bringing it to the Sea of Inkadia, she is set on having the Kraken cause unimaginable destruction.
