Todrick was giving Mitch polite commands to help him cook the breakfast, being careful not to make him walk around too much, just in case his ankle started acting up again.
Scott was watching cartoons with Alex and Kevin, while Jake went to get ready for the day.
Something happened that made Scott snort, and then he covered his face with his hands, and peeked through his fingers to see if anyone heard the embarrassing noise he made.
Kevin was smirking, and Alex was smiling at him.
Scott groaned. "I apologize for being disgusting."
Kevin turned to him. "I don't think you're disgusting at all, actually."
Alex agreed. "I don't think so either."
"Y'all are sweet."
Kevin was quiet for a second, and then groaned. "I'm sorry, you guys. I can't watch this. It just makes... Absolutely no sense."
Alex giggled. "It isn't supposed to make sense. That's why we watch them in the morning. Because your brain isn't quite awake yet."
Kevin turned to him slowly. "What...?"
Scott laughed, smiling over at him. "Kevin, I know you don't think so, but it is okay to give your brain a break every once in a while."
Kevin nodded, looking back towards the T.V. "Okay.. A break. I can do that."
*******
Mitch walked out of the kitchen, two plates in his hands, and handed one to Scott, before promptly sitting down in his lap, his own plate in his hands.
Scott leaned forward just enough to place a kiss on Mitch's neck. "Thank you, honey."
"You're welcome."
Todrick walked out, handing a plate to both Kevin and Alex, setting one on the table for Jake, and then going back to the kitchen to grab his own breakfast.
Alex stood up to scoot over and make room for Todrick beside his fellow Beta, smiling at him when he sat down.
Todrick looked to the television after he got comfortable, and tilted his head a little. "What.. Are we watching, exactly?"
Kevin shrugged, staring at his food. At that moment, Jake walked into the room, sitting down on the ground in front of Alex, before beginning to eat.
After about ten minutes of them eating in comfortable silence, the quiet backround noise of the T.V. keeping the room from getting quiet, Avi and Kirstie finally returned home.
Kirstie walked in tiredly, a warm smile on her face, but it was strongly contrasted by how Avi slammed the door shut behind him, striding across the living room with nothing more than a, "Scott. Now."
Scott quickly set his food down and waited for Mitch to move, before jogging down the hallway.
He found Avi standing in his room, waiting for him with an angry expression that Scott had become quite familiar with.
Scott closed the door behind himself carefully, keeping a safe distance between himself and the other Alpha. "Avi..? Is everything okay?"
"No, it isn't fucking okay. It's not okay that I just had to hand my first and only child over to someone else, after only getting to spend half a day with her."
Scott nodded slowly. "I know. I'm really sorry..."
"It isn't fair. And honestly, nothing in our society really is. I've been thinking about this for the entire hour or so it takes to get from Esther's to here. And... It isn't fair that Kirstie is one of the best people I've ever met, but she isn't good enough to pass a stupid parenting test. Which is bullshit because she's never been a parent before. And as an Omega, she has never been responsible for anyone."
