Alex nodded slowly. "Okay..."

"You told me they were at your wedding. But you also told me they died when you were young. So which is it?"

"They died when I was young. My aunt and uncle stepped in to raise me, and they're the ones that were at the wedding."

"How did they die?"

"Well..." Alex took a deep breath to retell the story, trying not to think about it too much so he wouldn't break down. "Mom died in a car crash... And Dad died later, in a fire. He was a firefighter at the time."

"You told me once that you spoke to your mother moments before she died. Were you involved in the crash as well?"

Alex took a little longer to answer that question. "Yes. I was... She and I were... But there was a wreck.. And before the ambulances could get there, she died in front of me."

Kirstie whimpered from where she was now holding onto Alex's hand, her other hand clutching Alex's shirt tightly.

Avi nodded once. "I'm sorry, Alexander. That must've been absolutely devastating... Although, your father being a firefighter explains why you're so; A, fit. And B, selfless as anything."

"Thank you, Alpha." Alex replied quietly.

"I have another one... If you're still okay to carry on."

"Yes, Sir."

Avi brought a hand up to run through Alex's hair, but didn't actually touch him because he changed his mind. "How old were you?"

"My mom left when I was about... Eight. And then Dad left around age fifteen."

Kirstie looked up at him with watery eyes. "You watched your mom die when you were eight years old?"

Alex pressed his lips together before correcting her quietly. "I held her, and felt her die when I was eight years old. I wish it were as simple as just seeing it happen."

Kirstie held him a little tighter. "Oh my God..."

Alex tried to smile, not wanting her to be upset. "No, it's okay. It was a long time ago."

Avi tapped Alex's arm once, regaining his attention. "I have another one. How old were you when you were taken into Jamie's pack? And then when did you meet Todrick?"

Alex got a little more comfortable to speak. "So... Dad died in my fifteenth year. And then Jamie took me in the year I graduated, at eighteen years old. I was with all of them for nearly... Three years. Mitch came in around the end of the second year. And that's when you and Travis came to save us, which is right around the same time I met Todrick."

"How... How did you get over your parents' death?"

"I don't know if I got over it, as much as.. Got used to it. As an Omega, I wasn't allowed to numb the pain with alcohol or anything. So that wasn't a problem. But... I guess I just drowned myself in school work, hopeful to forget... And then with Jamie and Tony... I just let the pain they gave me, replace the pain I already had. Just to feel something different."

"Why would you do that? You just accepted all the harm they caused you?"

"I guess... I was just tired of people feeling bad for me. All I felt was emptiness. And... The pain just... Gave me something to feel. Gave me something else to think about."

Avi nodded slowly. "What do you mean by tired of people feeling bad for you?"

"As an eight year old, soon to be Omega... I was just so confused when I couldn't get her to wake up... I, at that age, couldn't comprehend death. I thought she was just asleep. And I prayed for years, and years for my mother to come back to me. I used to cry for hours, and hours.. Begging for her to come back, because I missed her very much...."
