Kevin had gotten up onto the podium, the second to last Beta to speak at the meeting.
His hands were shaking, and Todrick could tell. All he wanted to do was walk up there and hold him, to reassure him that he could do this.
But he didn't. He couldn't.
Kevin began to get more confident toward the end of his speech. "I do not have any suggestions regarding this next topic, although I do want to bring it to your attention. I do understand the hierarchy of the Alpha, the Beta and the Omega. I understand it very thoroughly. Although, I do not necessarily agree with it."
He looked up and met Todrick's eyes, both of them knowing that what he was about to say had never been said to a room full of powerful Alphas and Betas.
Kevin took a deep breath, and then looked back to his cards. "I do agree that the Alpha should possess the supreme power in the pack. But I... I don't think that the Omega should be treated so poorly in comparison. Alphas were merely born into stronger bodies. It is simple genetics. Just because an Omega is labeled as such because of the body they were born into, does not mean that they deserve the treatment that comes along with it."
Todrick smiled at him. He thought Kevin was going to bail on this idea, but he seems to be going for it.
Kevin continued. "Please, if you will. Raise your hand if you know an Omega that was in some way abused by an Alpha unjustly. I mean verbal abuse, sexual abuse, physical or otherwise."
Nearly every single hand in the room went up.
"Thank you. You may put your hands down... Now, if I could also point out... Would all the Omegas in the room please stand?"
Mitch glanced over at Alex nervously, but all three of Avi's Omegas stood proudly.
Kevin scanned all of them. "And of all the Omegas standing, please sit down if you personally have been abused in one or more of the ways I listed previously."
Every single Omega sat down.
Avi watched Kirstie sit down curiously. "Kit...?"
"Let's talk about it later."
Kevin knew that it would be quite a few, but he hadn't quite anticipated that it would be all of them. "See? That is absolutely horrifying. I am not trying to blame any Alphas for this, especially not in this room. I know there are only a handful of you that have actually committed an act like this. Many of you are very kind Alphas. But... I know you all saw that. And that is just... Those statistics are staggering."
Scott suddenly felt terrible, and he slipped his arm over Mitch's shoulders, before kissing Mitch's temple.
"No one deserves to be abused, in any shape or form. But especially not the Omegas. The weakest and purest of our entire society. So I guess... My point is this; When did it get so bad that every single Omega in a room could admit to being abused? When did this become so common? I don't know about any of you, but I refuse to stand around and watch this happen. I'm almost positive if we asked every single Omega in the world, at least 9 out of 10 would admit to have been abused. Ninety percent."
Kirstie suddenly burst into tears, but she kept it quiet, and instead hid her face in Avi's side.
"I know for a fact that every single Alpha in this room, took an oath to protect their Omegas. To be an Alpha, you must obey that. So when did we divert our attention from the subject enough to allow it to happen to each and every Omega in this room?"
Kevin shook his head slowly and sighed, turning his last notecard over. "In conclusion... I just want to say that I personally know two Omegas who suffered tremendously from abuse. Every form of it. Verbal, physical, sexual... You name it. And I also know that those Alphas weren't sent to jail until at least a year later, after they came back once more to continue their torture."
