Mitch leaned down to hug Scott, afraid that Scott would burst into tears. "Alpha... Don't talk like that. I could never hate you. And I will never leave you."

Scott hugged him tightly, pressing his nose to Mitch's neck. "I'm so sorry. I am so, so sorry."

"Don't be sorry. Just... Will you tell me why? Why did you change your mind all of a sudden? You and I were on the same page yesterday. Or at least I thought we were."

Scott closed his eyes, refusing to move. "I'm sorry, baby. I just... I can't do it."

"You don't want to?"

"I'm not ready to."

"Why not? Is it me?"

"No. No, of course it isn't you, honey. It's me, it's all my fault. I just... After watching my own parents... Avi's parents... And then what happened with little, baby Grace... A child is a huge commitment, Mitchie. I know that it's in your instincts to want to nurture and take care of things. But.. I don't have that. And I'm not ready to make the commitment."

Mitch moved away, pushing against Scott's hold on him. "What are you--? All you do is take care of people. That's basically your claim to fame."

"But that's different. I'll fight til the end for anyone and everyone, especially in this pack. But that has almost nothing to do with raising a child."

"Then leave it to me. I can take care of the baby. It's what an Omega is born to do."

"I refuse to just leave you to raise a baby all by yourself."

"I won't be by myself. You'll be there. Just... I can do the motherly parts of it all."

Scott finally sighed, being brave enough to meet Mitch's eyes. "Mitchie... I said no. I'm just not ready. Please respect that."

"I do respect it. I'm just asking why. If anyone would make a good father, it would be you. And if you're worried about not doing a good job taking care of the kid, remember that our pack is full of strong father figures. Kevin would make a great nanny. Alex would be fantastic with a kid. Avi can discipline, Kirstie can mother... We will be just fine."

Scott shook his head slowly, tears still resonating in his eyes. "Please... I'm not ready."

Mitch sat up a little, still straddling Scott's body. "I... Okay. So... No babies."

"Not yet." He reached up and grabbed Mitch's upper arms. "But Mitchie, I promise you, I will give you all the children you want and more. And I will do absolutely everything I can to help you raise them. Just... Give me a little more time."

Mitch nodded, and although he felt the sadness weighing on his shoulders, he knew it was incomparable to what Scott was feeling in that moment. "Okay. I believe you."

"I'm so sorry, baby. Again. More sorry than I've ever been in my life."

"Well don't be. You don't have to be sorry. I understand your reasoning. And... I trust that you know what you're doing."

Scott grabbed one of Mitch's hands, and brought it to his lips. "Thank you... You know I would do anything for you. I'd die for you, my love."

"I know... And so... I shouldn't expect you to do this... After everything you've done for me, I... I have to respect your decision."
