(A/N)
As I'm editing this I'm realizing how much of an emotional roller-coaster this is.
I almost had MYSELF in tears xD
So, sorry in advance.
*********
After arriving at the hospital, Avi went by himself to find his mother, down one of the white halls.
Meanwhile Scott, Jake and Kirstie sat in the waiting room.
Scott held Kirstie's hand, and tried to calm her down, because she was so worried she could hardly breathe.
Jake was on edge because people kept staring at them, most likely because they knew who Scott was.
At some point, Kirstie looked close to tears, so Scott let her sit on his lap so he could hold her and calm her down.
Almost a minute after that, Avi came back down the hall. "Kirst? Will you come here a second?"
She jumped up and ran over, nearly tackling him in a hug.
Avi hugged her for a second, and then grabbed her hand to pull her down the hall.
He then lead her into the room, where his mother was sitting up, eating some form of gelatin.
Kirstie gave her a smile, and walked over, holding one of her hands. "Hi..."
Avi's mother smiled at her. "Hello, Sweetie. How are you doing? Avriel is treating you well?"
"Absolutely. I'm great, thank you. How are you? What happened?"
She took a deep breath before answering. "Well... There's a problem with my heart, I guess. They say it's from too much stress, as well as repetitive damage, or something? I don't really remember."
Kirstie gasped. "Oh no! I'm so sorry. You'll be okay though, right?"
Avi made eye contact with his mother, and shook his head at her so she'd know what to say. "Oh, of course. I'll be back on my feet in no time."
Before Kirstie could answer, Avi took a step forward and grabbed her arm to pull her out of the room.
He hardly made it two steps, Kirstie's forearm in his grasp, before his mother gasped at him. "Avriel Benjamin Kaplan, you let go of her this instant!"
Avi dropped Kirstie's arm and rushed to his mother's bedside.
As soon as he leaned towards her, she gave his arm a quick slap. "Don't you dare pull your Omega around like a ragdoll. She loves you, and deserves to be treated fairly. Please don't tell me you treat the rest of your pack like this. I thought you wanted to be different from your father."
Avi took a step back, his heart beating in his throat. "I'm so sorry, Mother... I've disappointed you."
"Well, if you're telling me that you push your Omegas around then yes. You have."
And in that moment, Avi's entire world came crashing down.
Just in these past few days alone, he's suffered his subordinate Alpha surpassing him, his child being taken from him, his wife's unconditional happiness being tainted with heartbreak, his mother's health declining, and now...
The last thing she might ever say to him, was how disappointed she was in him.
Avi thought he might be sick, as he stared into his mother's dying, disapproving eyes, so he sprinted out of the room.
