Both Mitch and Alex decided neither of them could sleep without their Alphas, so they quietly crept down the stairs to wait for their pack to return, on the couch.
They'd only been sitting for about ten minutes, when Mitch leaned into Alex's side, for Alex to put his arm over him with a grin.
Mitch closed his eyes, tucked in as close to Alex as he could be. "Allie?"
"Yes, Mitchie?"
"Why are you so unhappy with what you look like?"
"You were the same way, once upon a time. So why were you?"
"Because Jamie told me I was hideous, and I believed it. But I'm better now, because I know he was just trying to make me feel bad so that I would stay with him. What's your excuse?"
Alex didn't say anything, just held Mitch a little tighter.
Mitch looked up at him. "Allie?"
"Hmm?"
"Please answer me."
"Well... I don't know. I guess, I was starting to get my confidence back with Travis. But.. When he left, I guess that sort of sealed the deal for me."
"Sealed the deal? How so?"
Alex refused to meet his eyes, fiddling his hand around in his lap to distract himself. "I thought... That no one could love me, because of Jamie and Tony... But when Travis came around, I knew that someone could. But... Then he left too..."
"And you think that's because of what you look like?"
"Well, it has to be. Tony always warned me that he was the only one who could love someone that looked like me. I thought Travis was an exception but..." He trailed off, looking towards the door hoping Jake would save him from this situation.
Mitch set a hand on Alex's leg to get his attention. "Aw, Allie... That's not true. You're very, very handsome."
"Thanks."
Mitch sat up a little. "You don't believe me." A statement, not a question.
Alex shrugged in response.
"Alex, you're--"
Avi opening the door interrupted him.
Scott walked in behind them, Kirstie in his arms.
Avi immediately walked over and crossed his arms. "Omegas, it is nearly three in the morning. Why are you still awake?"
Mitch jumped up and tried to get past him, but Avi, being in the terrible mood that he was in now, just pushed him back down to the couch. "Answer me."
Alex, out of fear, spoke first. "I'm so sorry, Alpha, Sir. We just wanted to wait for you guys to come home."
"Why?"
"I-I just missed Jake. And Mitch was having trouble sleeping and--"
"Okay fine." Avi turned and walked away. "I just realized I don't actually care."
Alex frowned at him as he left, Kirstie tiredly following him.
Jake, feeling a little brave after the day's events. "Avi, could you please not talk to him like that?"
Avi stopped, and slowly turned around. His eyes shifted over to Alex on the couch, and mumbled a quick apology, before turning again and disappearing down the hall.
Scott walked over quickly, grabbing Mitch in a hug. "Hi, baby."
Mitch let his feet come up off of the ground, to cling to Scott in their hug. "I missed you so much. Couldn't sleep without you."
