Todrick closed the door, and saw Alex speaking to Kevin already.
Todrick quickly walked over to them, and pushed Kevin's shoulder lightly. "I told you to wait for me, you little menace."
Kevin laughed and grabbed Todrick's hand to give it a kiss. "I'm sorry, I didn't say anything important yet."
Todrick's pout quickly turned into a smile. "I forgive you. Anyways..." He turned to Alex. "I wanted to make sure you were okay, after you left the table... Did you catch yourself thinking of Travis again?"
Alex nodded sadly, hands clasped in front of himself. "Yes... I'm sorry for leaving the table so rudely."
"Don't be silly. That's not what I meant. Are you okay now? I assume Jake said something to you about it."
Alex smiled a little and nodded. "Yes. He was real nice about it. I feel a lot better now. Thanks for asking."
Todrick sighed. "Allie... Honey." He shook his head, and then opened his arms a little. "Come here."
Alex immediately came forward to hug him, smiling widely as usual.
Todrick shook his head. "You're too nice. You don't deserve the cruel, dark world that you've been exposed to. I wish I could just, shield you from everything... But I can't. I'm a Beta, and I'm weak... And I have to watch Alphas destroy you, without being able to help at all.."
Alex's smile fell, and he moved back to stare at Todrick's face. "Wh-Where is this coming from?"
"I knew Travis better than anyone else. And... I should've known better than to let you near him when he was that angry. And... That one event is what tore you two apart. I can't help but think..."
Kevin finally spoke up. "Todrick... You can't possibly blame yourself for that. How could you have known?"
Todrick shook his head. "I don't know... I just feel like, if anyone could've known, it should've been me."
Kevin frowned at him. "Baby... No. None of us could've possibly predicted that devastation."
Alex reached forward and hugged Todrick again. "I don't blame you for that. It had to happen for me to meet Jake. And Jake has changed my life."
Kevin joined their hug, his arms around both of the people in front of him. "Todrick, please recite Romans 8:28 for me. King James Version, if you please."
Todrick sniffled a little, although he wasn't crying. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
"Exactly. And what does that mean?"
Todrick looked up at Alex, the heartbreakingly innocent Omega he'd promised to protect until an Alpha could do the job properly.
The Omega that he'd seen broken, bruised, bleeding, crying... But never failed to smile through it all.
And finally felt his guilt begin to melt away. "Everything happens for a reason."
**********
After waking up again, Mitch realized that Scott had never gone back to sleep.
Scott was instead sitting on the ground in the corner of the room, with the bottle of alcohol in his hand, and Wyatt perched on his shoulder.
Mitch jumped up and rushed over to him, dropping to the ground and pulling the bottle from his grasp. "Alpha, are you drinking pure vodka?!"
Scott giggled at him, reached forward to grab Mitch's chin, and yanked him into a kiss.
Mitch fell onto him, the alcohol spilling a little. "Alph--!"
