Adriana:

💞2 days later💞

This morning I went out to go visit my dad, and to my surprise when I arrived there was an unknown car on the driveway.
"Dad!" I yelled as I walked in to the house. I threw my keys down on the table by the door, taking off my jacket as I walked around the corner. But stopped every action when my eyes met the old lady, or well... my grandmother, sitting down on the couch with my dad.

"Adriana. I-uhm...I'd like you to meet you g-" "My grandma." I smiled as she stood up, walking over to me. "You guys met?"
"A few days ago in a supermarket." He chuckled lightly before leaving the room and she took my hand, walking me over to the backyard where we sat down by the table, drinking tea.

"I thought I'd meet up with you on another occasion."
"I know darling, but I bumped in to your father and he asked me to come over. I didn't think you'll be showing up, but why not talk now." I smiled as I looked in to her eyes. They somewhat feel so familiar, like I know them.
But how could I remember her when I was still so small?
"What can you tell me about my mother?" I hesitated to ask that question, but I need to know.

"Oh Adriana," she smiled so big. "My daughter, she loved you with all her heart. Your father sent us pictures of you every month, and that's how I knew and recognized you. She never stopped talking about you, and how proud she was of you." I smiled as I listened to her telling me about my mother.
Her name was Elanor. Who knew?
Elanor Kendrick.
It sounds so good, so beautiful.

"Can I see her? Where can I find her?" I asked impatiently, but her smile dropped from her face as she looked down to her cup of tea. "Didn't he ever tell you?" She asked, still not making eye contact.
What? My smile faded too, what's she talking about?
What did my dad hide from me?
I'm guessing by my silence she knew that he didn't tell me. She scooted closer to me as she placed her hand over mine.

"The reason your mother left you and your dad was because she didn't want you to remember her when she wasn't part of your life anymore. She was diagnosed with stage four cancer after giving birth to you. It was too late by then so they didn't give her any treatment. She broke down as she tried talking your father in to leaving, she saw it as the only way for you to have a normal life and not be sad about her leaving when you still remember her. Better that you don't know her than knew her." Even though I don't know her, she's still my mother. And to hear this, hearing that she actually just left me to protect me means a lot, but I still wanted to get to know the person who was my actual mother.

"She died just a few months after your birth. But your father never stopped sending pictures of you." She smiled again. "I'm sorry I never told you Adriana. But your mother loved you more than anything in this world." I turned around to see my dad standing in the doorway. A picture in his hand as he approached me.

"You can have this." He handed me the picture and I saw, what I think must be my mother, and she's holding me in her arms. I look just like her.
"Thanks dad." I swooped him up in a hug. "Thanks for never leaving me." He kissed my cheek and I greeted them again.

I know I came and gone like the wind or rain, but Shawn and I are leaving today. Running off. Finally having to live that our after so many times that we wanted to head away.
When I walked out, he was already there, ready to take off. He leaned against the car, looking at me with a smile as I walked out the door.

"Hey." I rushed up to him, giving him a big hug. He kissed my neck, holding me closer. I pulled away, just slightly, and locked my eyes on his. "Ready to go?"
"Ready as I'll ever be." I pecked his lips before getting in the car and we drove off.

I told him on the way to wherever the road takes us, about meeting my nan at my dads and I told him everything she told me. "She died after my birth. I'll never get to meet her, but what she did was probably for the better." I said sadly, looking down at my lap where the pictures was in my hand. Shawn reached over, taking my one hand in his.
"I'm sorry about that. But she loved you." "Yeah." I smiled, intertwining my fingers with his.
