'Sonakshi, you just miscarried a 6 weeks baby.'

Sonakshi was polaxed.

Rohit was astonished beyond belief.

Sonakshi squeezed Rohit's hand.

There was an ominous silence before they both spoke. Together.

'Baby?!?!'

'Yes, you were pregnant..'

'No! No! No! That can't be..how can you say..no no..that's just not possible..I would have known..matlab..aise kaise ho sakta hai..you must be mistaken Dr. Asha..I..'

Her voice trailed off because Dr. Asha was sadly shaking her head.

'I'm sorry, but it's true..'

Sonakshi squeezed Rohit's hand tighter.

'But..but..' tears began to stream down her cheeks, unchecked.
'I was taking contraceptive pills..I..I..oh God!!'

Sonakshi put her face in her hands.

'Sona! Please! It's not your fault..tum..'

Rohit spoke, his voice shaky.

'But Rohit..I...'

'Sonakshi..it can happen to anyone..relax. Maine D and C (dilatation and curettage) kardiya hai. All seems well. Ek raat ruk jao yahan to better hai, warna ghar chali jaana. Lekin please rest karna zaroori hai..no clinics, no surgeries. Or mujhe ek week baad dikhane zaroor aana.'

'I will make sure of that Dr. Asha.'
Rohit said.

'Good! Take care. Bye.'

Dr. Asha left, leaving the room in an eerie silence.

Sonakshi had let go of Rohit's hand, but didn't look at Rohit, choosing to stare at  the wall in front of her.

Rohit put a hand to his forehead, lost in thought.

After what seemed like ages, Rohit spoke.

'Sona..tum..'

There was a knock on the door and whatever he had been about to say got left, unsaid.
Suman and Veena entered the room, looking distraught.

'Sona! Meri bachi!!'
Suman came and hugged Sonakshi.

Veena came to stand by Rohit, putting a hand on his shoulder.

Suman looked at her when Sonakshi didn't respond.

Sonakshi kept looking at the wall, her eyes dry.

'Sona! Sona, tum sun rahi ho na? Dr. Asha mili mujhe bahar. Yeh sab kaise hogaya Sona?'

Suman shook Sonakshi but it was as if she was in a trance. She showed no response.

'Rohit! Yeh kya hogaya hai isse? Baat kyun nahin kar rahi?' Suman looked at Rohit, who seemed to be frozen in shock as well.

But he turned at Suman's question.

'Ma! Woh..shock mein hai..'

Suman turned back to Sonakshi.

Sonakshi put a hand to her abdomen and kept staring there.

She finally looked up at Suman, her eyes and voice devoid of any emotion.

'Ma! Mera baby..aane se pehle hi chala gaya..'

Suman was crying now, as was Veena.

'Mera bacha, himmat rakho, sab theek hojayega..'
