Chapter 145

It was a dark night.

The moon was playing hide and seek with the clouds. The bungalow had settled down for the night, the main lights all switched off, leaving the glow of the street lights falling on it.

A figure crouched down, a bit further away from the watchman sleeping on a chair. His snores were loud enough to scare anyone, and the figure had to turn and look, to make sure if it was actually him.

The figure hurried across the lawn, and in the hurry, crashed into another figure, doing the same.

They eyed one another in the darkness, prepared for fight or flight, before their eyes widened.

'Tum?'

'Aap?'

Sonakshi and Pari sat chatting with their parents in their room.

'Phir kya hua, Ma?'
Pari was fascinated by the incident her mother was relaying, of their childhood.

'Bas, tum Sona ka har jagah peecha karti thi. Ek baar Sona ne yeh tak bol diya tha, ke meri shadi ho gi to wahan bhi ajaogi kya?'
Suman laughed.

'Or Pari ne bol diya, han, Di..jahan aap jayengi, wahin jaungi..do bhai hongay jahan..ek se aap shadi karna, ek se mein!'
Anil continued the story.

Both sisters guffawed with laughter, as they realised it had all come true.

'Pari, yani tumhari nazar tab se mere sasural pe thi!'
Sonakshi laughed aloud.

'Di!!'
Pari burrowed her face in Sonakshi's shoulder, chuckling.

Everyone laughed, remembering the good old times.

'Acha chalo, chalo, subah mehndi le ke ajayengi Veena ji..jao ab jaa ke sojao dono..'

Both sisters got up from the floor where they had been sitting, and hugged their parents.

'Goodnight Ma, good night Papa!'

Sonakshi and Pari climbed the stairs together, talking quietly amongst themselves.
They had almost reached the top floor, when a sound in the silence, stopped them in their tracks.

Thud!

They both clutched each other's hands.

'Di! Yeh kaisi awaaz thi?'

'Uhm..kuch nahin..bahar se hai..relax..'
Her voice itself wasn't steady.

Sonakshi moved a bit further, when it came again.

Thud!

Both sisters looked at each other.

'Di! Papa ko bulaayen kya? Pulkit bhi nahin hai.'
Pari whispered.

'Papa pareshaan hojayenge. Dekhte hain..'

'K-k-kya dekhengi, Di? Koi intruder hua to?'
Pari clutched Sonakshi's t-shirt.

'Aray..chorro to..let me go see..'

Sonakshi realised the sound had come from her room. As she headed towards that, the sound seemed to come from Pari's room.

'Di! Koi pakka hai bahar!'

'Bahar koi hota to Shaamlal ko pata chalta na..he's right outside!'

Sonakshi tiptoed towards her room, while Pari followed her real close.
Sonakshi stopped, and Pari crashed into her.

'Pari!!!'

'Sorry, sorry!!'

Opening the door, she looked around.
A small lamp was all that was lit, the main lights off.
There was no one there. She almost sighed with relief, when it came again.
