Chapter 101

'Hello? Hello, ma'am?'

Sonakshi heard the voice coming through the phone's speaker.

Taking a deep breath, she picked up the phone from the floor.

'Ji..ji..woh..Rohit..mera matlab..jo car mein..woh kaise..'

'Injured hain, behosh bhi..ambulance agayi hai..'

'I..I am a doctor..aap please Lifecare Hospital bhejwaiye ga..mein wahan pohonchti hun..please..'

Sonakshi was almost wheezing by the time she finished the sentence.

'Okay..chalo..ambulance mein le chalo.' She heard him say as the call disconnected.

Sonakshi stood there for seconds, unable to process what she had heard, despite giving out instructions, as a doctor would.

As a wife, her feet seemed like lead, stuck to the floor, unable to move.

'ROHIT!!!'

Sonakshi ran towards the doorway.

She was halfway down the stairway, when she realised she was wearing a silk nightgown.
She cursed herself and hurried back to change.

Running back down the stairs, she called out to Veena and Naren.

'Mom!! Papa!!'

They both came hurrying out of their room.

'Kya hua Sonakshi beta?'

'Papa! Aap please chalen mere saath!'

Veena clasped her chest.
'Rohit! Kuch hua hai na? Bolo..Sona..batao.'

'Woh, Mom..accident..'

Veena gasped.

'Kahan hai Rohit? Kaisa hai?'

'Mom! Mein ja rahi hun hospital, Papa ke saath..aap please sambhaalo..pohonch ke bataungi..'

'Mujhe jaana hai..'

Naren stopped her.

'Veena! Sonakshi theek bol rahi hai..tum ruko..hum jaate hain..'

They both ran outside, as Sonakshi relayed what she knew, and soon were on the way to the hospital.

Sonakshi reached the hospital, before the ambulance did, warning the emergency department and getting ward boys ready.

'Staff! Please page Dr. Pulkit! Right now!'

An ambulance arrived and Sonakshi ran towards it.

As the back door opened and the stretcher was taken out, Sonakshi moved towards it.

'Rohit!!' Her voice and hands  trembled.

There was blood, and his lifeless form on the stretcher.

'Di! Aap hatto..'
Pulkit had come up behind her.

The stretcher was wheeled in, and Sonakshi ran alongside it.

The first thing she noticed was that his right hand was covering the left, where he wore his watch.

He was clutching the watch with her picture!

There was a huge gash over his forehead, with blood oozing over his eyes and  cheeks. His blue tshirt was a funny purple colour from the blood it had soaked.
He lay so still, that a sense of foreboding ran through her like a current.

Tears stung her eyes, but she blinked them away.

No Sona! You can't break down! You have to be strong! He needs me..oh God! I need him..
