Chapter 1: A Fresh Start

Our battle against the three great factions was a bit one sided I guess you can say. We were at a numbers disadvantage, while they had thousands of troops willing to give there lives for there home. At times I feel bad for what transpired during the war. But when I think back at all the pain he's been through all my sadness goes away and I'm filled with anger. Having felt the horrible heart ache of when I first found out he died and the fact that it was my fault drove me to depression. Facing the guild after his death wasn't easy..the pain in Lucy's voice said it all. I deserved getting slapped that day and much more, it was my duty to protect him. Remembering the vision I had with my former master made it even worse. The little fight I had with Grayfia because of my failure wasn't a pill I could swallow easily either. The girls said they don't hate me for it and that I tried my best to protect him. But you could see it in there eyes I was someone who was seen as powerful, the Sage Dragon is what they would call me. In reality The Scarlet Despair was the name that followed me everywhere, not just because of the power I possessed but everything and everyone around me died. When we went to go pay DiMaria a visit, MiraJane,Brandish, Wendy and myself all thought we could fix it with her power,initially. For some reason she denied helping us. Brandish was angry at her because of an old fight Natsu and DiMaria had.

Natsu: Irene!

I remember hearing my name being called when the windows blew open because a strong gust of wind that blew by. At first I thought I was hearing things but it's impossible there's no way I could be hearing things. I acted on impulse on a gut feeling, thankfully my gut feeling was right Natsu was still alive. I was so happy to see him standing there with his goofy smile, and his salmon color hair. Unfortunately we reunited during a brief battle between the factions. He later explained to me everything that had occurred, we also told Mira who was as surprised as I was to find out he was still alive. Selene had tortured him endlessly day in and night out, until Natsu couldn't contain it anymore. He broke, it was as if something inside him snapped. He gave into all the hatred, anger and sadness he's been carrying over the years and finally released E.N.D.
You could see it on Mira's face, Brandish and DiMaria too. They were scared, they didn't show it but you could feel his power. Out of all of us Wendy was the bravest. She still treated him the same, she treated him as her older brother and he treated her as his younger sister. It came to a surprise to me seeing how gentle this demon was. No...he wasn't a demon, because just how Wendy said "You're still my brother". She was right deep inside Natsu was still there. The one night I approached him and decided to hug him from behind I felt the same warmth as when we first met. I also noticed something had changed within him. I remember him saying

E.N.D: This world only knows peace. I wish to keep it that way.

That's something someone as powerful as him shouldn't be saying. But it seemed to me that E.N.D wasn't fit for this world. Like he said this world, it's people knew peace. Bringing a war would only cause chaos and death. Even though he would always say "I'm not him." You could still tell Natsu was somewhere inside influencing him.
The war only lasted a day in a half, I anticipated it to last longer but with everyone playing there role it was easy. The factions didn't have much on us except numbers but even with that between Brandish and Natsu, the hundred thousand or so warriors where not much for those two. Making matters worse for them was Natsu's awakening. I don't know what happened but he was back, the man who I remember meeting at the hospital bed, the man who sparred my life twice. The one who helped me find my daughter and the man who made me believe that I could love again, was there in front of me. He felt different in a way, you didn't sense that darkness within him anymore instead I felt his flames wrap around me like a protective blanket. Once I knew Natsu was back I knew this war was over. He defeated Micheal quickly using his holy dragon slaying powers to bring him down. He then proceeded to ask Griselda what to do with him. She didn't say a word instead she looked away. Natsu began to walk away igniting the angels body on fire. Then came Sirzechs, having the big heart that he has he only injured him by cutting of his arm knocking him out in the process. He was finally done, he freed himself from his past and he could finally move on. But there was still one more person Natsu had to face and that was Rias Gremory. The two fought not holding anything back against each other, combine that with Rias's new form she was able to hold her own against Natsu who was in a way teaching her. He could have easily used his holy nova or his flames to easily beat her but he chose another way. In the end she ended up loosing, this was her first time using her new form so she tired herself out quickly. With him winning Natsu told her to do what she had to as the new leader of the devils.
