Chapter 40: White Extinction

Before Natsu, DiMaria and Brandish headed towards the opposite direction where they heard the sound of guns reloading. Brandish and DiMaria showed Natsu around the destroyed city of Tokyo.

Natsu: All of this happened because of Irene?

DiMaria: Yeah...She did it for a good reason, don't be angry with her.

He looks around as the scent of dead bodies still lingers in the air.

Natsu: I'm not angry at her. It's just..

Brandish: Natsu.

She stops him from continuing to talk.

Brandish: All of us here with you, will stop at nothing to secure your safety. Irene saw it necessary to use a powerful spell to secure your safety as well as all of ours.

DiMaria: She's right. I would had done the same.

Natsu: Like I said I'm not angry. It's just all of the destruction and death..

DiMaria: One of the main reasons we don't let Wendy out. Irene told us not to let her out because the smell of dead bodies will make her sick to her stomach, since you guys have a sensitive nose.

Natsu: how are the citizens taking it?

Brandish: Honestly the first couple of days it was bad. People were looting the stores that managed to survive the quakes, and those who were unsuccessful just stole from the ones who looted or killed them.

DiMaria: Times like these is where a humans true nature is exposed.

Brandish: Not to mention the government is trying to retake order of the whole situation, but they're doing it in a way that the people are rebelling against them.

Natsu: what do you mean?

DiMaria: Japan has been split in two. North and South.

Natsu: what?!

He says in surprise to this.

Brandish: the north side of Japan is where all the government officials live. So they managed to maintain the order on there side.

DiMaria: But for us, the South side of Japan things haven't been looking too kindly. The government tried the easy approach but all they did was feed people were scraps. Kept promising more help was on the way and it never came. So the people took matters into there own hands. That's when the looting started and the killings. At that point a curfew was set.

Brandish: Anyone caught past curfew would be arrested. If they are seen stealing they would be shot on site. If they flee, or even see any signs of fighting back, they would be shot and killed.

Natsu: So they're cutting down on the survivors to show that they mean business? Ruling by fear.

DiMaria: Yeah..

Natsu: Same thing happened all those years back with my people.

The two girls look down as they remember the war between devils and angels and the Etherious demons.

Brandish: I know you said we will never kill humans.

Natsu: Brandish. Do not go there.

Brandish: But Natsu! It's been multiple times that they've gotten close to the tower! Thankfully they see the tower as a signal of hope, but if the government gives the order. They will use the tower as a command center and surely try to take us down!

DiMaria: She's right master. I know we all agreed on never killing humans. But this time it's an exception.

Natsu closes his eyes and looks up towards the sky. That's when he hears the sounds of guns being reloaded. He looks in the opposite direction where the sounds came from.
