"How long have we been here?" Ashton asked as he wiped sweat off his forehead." It's been about 30 minutes," Justin answered as he walked towards the closest tree and sat under it. " Come sit down Ash, you look like you could use a break."
Ashton sat down beside Justin and reached in his bag. He pulled out the two bottles of water his Mom gave him and handed one to Justin." Thanks," Justin said as he opened his bottle of water and started drinking it.
Ashton put his empty bottle in his bag and stared at the field in the distance. " how long until we reach Viridian City?" Ashton asked. It's a 10 minute walk." Justin said.
"I'm taking a nap before we go any further," Ashton said. He took of his jacket and bag and used them as a pillow and blanket. He closed his eyes and after a couple seconds, he dozed off. Justin, on the other hand, didn't feel like sleeping, and reached into his bag. He grabbed a cookie that was inside a plastic bag and pulled it out.
Before he could start eating, he heard a rustling noise come from the tall grass in front of him. " what is that?" He asked as he stood up. He waited a bit until something hopped out. It was a small blue creature with no arms and leaves growing out of its head.
Justin pulled out his Pokédex and scanned the creature with it. Justin read the information on the screen and found out it was called an "Oddish". It was a grass-poison type. "I already have a grass type. Ash can have this one," Justin said. He bent down to his sleeping friend and shook him awake." Ash, it's a Pokémon. You can catch it," Justin said.
Ashton sat up and looked at it. "Alright I'll catch it!" Ashton exclaimed as he grabbed Squirtles Pokeball. " go Squirtle!" He yelled, throwing his starter Pokémons Pokeball.
Squirtle came out and growled at Oddish. "You do realize Squirtle is at a disadvantage, right?" Justin asked. "Squirtles the only Pokémon I have right now so I don't think it matters much," Ashton said." Now then, Squirtle, Use water gun!"
Squirtle shot a beam of water at Oddish, who couldn't dodge in time and was sent flying into into the field. "I'll be back," Ashton said to Justin as he followed the Oddish.
Oddish had shaken off the water and was ready to fight. "Squirtle, use Tackle!" Ashton said. Squirtle ran at Oddish and slammed Its shell into it. The grass-poison Pokémon was sent tumbling back and could barely stand.
"Now's my chance!" He exclaimed as he grabbed an empty Pokeball and threw it at Oddish. The ball hit Oddish and absorbed Oddish inside of it. The ball shook three times and glowed green, Indicating Oddish had been caught.
"Alright, my first Pokémon catch!" Ashton exclaimed as he ran to the Pokeball. He picked it up and place it in his pocket. "Good job, you did great for your first time, Ash," Justin congratulated as he walked up to Ashton.
"Hey Justin, I got an idea. How about we split up for a bit and see who can get cooler Pokémon. When we do, we'll go to Viridian City," Ashton suggested. "Sure, it sounds fun. I'm gonna go catch some Pokémon then," Justin said as he turned and walked to the field. Ashton turned and went the opposite direction with Squirtle and Oddish's Pokeballs in hand. "Alright you two, guess we should start catching some Pokémon," Ashton said with determination as he walked into the field.
