Three trainers leave Pallet Town and travel across the Kanto and Johto regions. Along the way, they meet lots of friends and enemies and compete in the Kanto Tournament League and the Johto League.
"Here you are now. Your Pokemon are fully rested and ready to leave," The nurse said, handing Ashton his PokeBalls. "Thank you," Ashton said as he grabbed the PokeBalls and walked out of the Pokemon Center. He walked down the street and made his way back to the gym.
He turned the street and saw a familiar face walking down the street. It was Brock. "Hey Brock! Over here!" Ashton shouted as he ran towards Brock, getting a couple weird stares in the process by passerbys. Brock looked over and noticed Ashton running towards him. "Oh, hey Ashton. I see you made it to the Johto Region," Brock said. "Yep! Justin and Okotsu are here with me too. They're battling the Gym Leader right now. What are you doing here?" Ashton asked.
"I'm here because I heard a rare Pokemon was here. It's a one of a kind and it's one of my favorite Pokemon Types. It's a rock type," Brock said. "A rare Rock Type Pokemon, huh? What's it's name?" Ashton asked. "Follow me. I'll tell you the name when we're in private," Brock said. Ashton nodded and Brock led him out of the city. Brock led him to a cave that was a couple minutes away from Ecruteak City.
"Right. Now that we're alone, the name of this Pokemon is an Onix," Brock said. Ashton blinked a couple times and turned his head in confusion. "An... Onix? You already have one, though," Ashton said, sounding completely confused. "Let me finish. It is an Onix, but it's not a normal Onix. It's an Onix made of crystals," Brock said. "Really? That sounds awesome!" Ashton said. "It is. I came here because the legend says the Crystal Onix is near Ecruteak City in this very cave," Brock said.
"I see. I wanna help you find it!" Ashton said with a determined look on his face. Brock smiled and nodded. "Right then. Let's head inside," Brock said. The two trainers walked inside the cave, not knowing they were being watched by two people.
"Did you hear that, Mike? The brat and that Gym Leader are looking for a rare Onix," Ronnie said. "Yep. I say we swoop in at the last second and steal it!" Mike said. "Great idea. Let's go!" Ronnie said. The two Team Rocket Elite Officers ran towards the cave and walked inside.
Meanwhile, Ashton and Brock were inside the cave, looking at all the Pokemon walking past. They saw lots of Zubat and Geodude moving around. "So, where does the Crystal Onix normally hang out at?" Ashton asked. "I'm not sure. I'd guess a place deeper in the back of the cave," Brock said.
They got to a room full of crystals and saw a huge of blue stones in the middle. "Hmm. Say, do you see another path in this room?" Brock asked. Ashton looked around and couldn't find anything. Ashton shook his head. "Then I guess this is it. We couldn't find the Crystal Onix," Brock said with disappointment in his voice. Ashton sat on the blue stones. Suddenly, they began to shake. "Woah!" Ashton exclaimed as he jumped off of them. The stones stood up and revealed themselves to be an Onix, but it was a crystal blue color.

"Woah! The Crystal Onix!" Ashton exclaimed. The Onix looked down at Brock and Ashton and smiled at them. "Hey, its friendly," Ashton said. Brock reached in his back and pulled out some Pokemon food. He put some in his hand and lifted it towards the Crystal Onix. "Here you go. It's food, just for you," Brock said. The Onix bent down and ate the food, causing Ashton and Brock to smile.
Suddenly, a net flew out of nowhere and wrapped the Onix up, causing it to roar in fear. "What the? Who's there?!" Brock shouted. Two figures walked out of the shadows, revealing themselves to be Team Rocket. "Team Rocket! Why are you here?!" Ashton asked. "Why, to steal the Crystal Onix of course. If we steal and sell it, we'll make lots of money which we can use to not only fund ourselves, but fund the Team Rocket Johto Unit," Mike said.
"I won't let that happen!" Brock shouted. "Same here! You wont get your dirty hands on Onix!" Ashton shouted. They both grabbed a PokeBall. "So we're gonna battle for it! Very well!" Ronnie said. Ronnie and Mike sent out Arcanine and Poliwrath. "Get ready Brock! These two are really strong!" Ashton said. Brock nodded and they both threw their PokeBalls forward.
Ashton sent out Magnemite and Brock sent out his own Onix. "Let's do this Magnemite! Use Electro Ball on that Poliwrath!" Ashton shouted. Magnemite made a ball of electricity and shot it at Poliwrath, shocking it. "Arcanine, use Flame Blast at that Magnemite!" Ronnie said. Arcanine jumped up and shot a huge blast of fire at Magnemite. "Onix, block that attack!" Brock said. Onix blocked the fire with it's tail. "Good! Now use Rock Throw!" Brock said.
Onix grabbed a nearby rock with it's tail and threw it at Arcanine. Arcanine was hit by the attack and howled in pain. "Good, now use Tail Slam!" Brock said. Onix lifted it's tail and slammed it Into Arcanine and Poliwrath, sending them flying. Arcanine and Poliwrath went flying and crashed into Ronnie and Mike, sending them crashing into the cave roof, through the ground, and flying into the sky.
"Ronnie, how come you didn't use your Houndour? We could've had a better chance!" Mike said. "It didn't occur to me at the time!" Ronnie said. "We're blasting off again!" They both screamed.
Ashton and Brock called Magnemite and Onix back to their PokeBalls. "Onix!" Onix said in discomfort, due to the net binding it in place. "Right! Let's get the net off of it," Brock said. Ashton nodded and they started undoing the net. Eventually, they got it off and the Onix roared happily. "There you go, Onix. You're safe now," Brock said in a soothing voice.
Onix was really grateful at Ashton and Brock's heroic action and bent down. It nodded it's head towards their PokeBalls. "Huh? I think it wants one of us to catch it," Brock said. "I think it should be you, Brock. You're the one who wanted to find it, so if anyone deserves to catch and train it, it's you," Ashton said. Brock smiled and grabbed an empty PokeBall. He tapped Onix's head with the PokeBall and it absorbed Onix.
The ball shook three times before glowing green. Brock smiled and put the PokeBall in his pocket. "I say mission accomplished! Let's go Brock," Ashton said. Brock nodded and they both walked out of the cave and back to Ecruteak City. "Well Ashton, I think I'm gonna head back to Kanto. Thanks for the help today," Brock said. "Alright then. See ya later Brock," Ashton said.
Brock and Ashton high fived and they both turned and walked in opposite directions. Ashton walked to the gym and saw Justin, Okotsu, and Blastoise glaring at him with angry stares. "Uh, hey guys," Ashton said nervously. "Where have you been! We've been waiting for you to get back!" Okotsu said angrily. "Yeah. What were you doing?" Justin asked, just as angrily. "Blast!" Blastoise said with an angry glare. Togepi was asleep.
"Uhhh, would you believe me if I said I was at the Pokemon Center the whole time?" Ashton asked nervously. "Not a chance! We checked there earlier!" Justin and Okotsu shouted angrily and they and Blastoise punched Ashton's head. "Ow! That hurt!" Ashton cried. He rubbed his head and Justin and Okotsu sighed. "Whatever. We got our badges, so we're heading to the next city," Justin said. "Yeah. Our next stop is Olivine City," Okotsu said. "Then let's go guys!" Ashton said. The three trainers and Blastoise and Togepi walked out of Ecruteak City and down the road to Olivine City.
