Three trainers leave Pallet Town and travel across the Kanto and Johto regions. Along the way, they meet lots of friends and enemies and compete in the Kanto Tournament League and the Johto League.
"Here it is Justin! The spot where I first caught Oddish!" Ashton said. He pointed at the tree that him and Justin were sitting under when they encountered Oddish. Justin chuckled. "Yep. A lots happened since then," Justin said.
The four boys continued down the road until Ashton saw another familiar location. "Hey! It's the river I saved my Eevee from drowning in! Even my Jackets here!" Ashton exclaimed. He ran towards it and grabbed his jacket off of the branch. "How is it still clean?" Ashton asked. He didn't need another jacket, though. "Here Okotsu. You can have it. You must get cold when it rains," Ashton said, handing the coat to Okotsu. "Thanks Ash," Okotsu said.
He put the jacket on. "Honestly, it looks good," Okotsu said. It was a blue jacket with a black stripe down the middle. They went back on the path and walked through the entrance to Viridian City. "Now here's my home! It's so nice to be back!" King said.
A man in a suit walked up to the four trainers. "Excuse me. Are any of you the trainer known as Ashton?" The man asked. "My names Ashton," Ashton said. "Good. The gym leader of Viridian City would like to meet you," The man said. The man gestured Ashton to follow him. Ashton followed him to the gym. "He's waiting inside for you," The man said as he stood next to the door. Ashton walked in and his friends tried to walk in too, but the man stopped him.
"The gym leader wishes to speak to him alone," The man said. Ashton walked further into the gym until a light turned on. Under it was a man who was wearing a suit and had a fedora on. "I must say. When we first met, I didn't think much of you. When I heard you had a Golden Charmander however, that's when I took an interest in you," The man said. Ashton looked at him in confusion.
"Right. I should introduce myself," The man said. He took off his fedora and revealed who he was. It was Giovanni. "You! You're the gym leader?" Ashton asked. "Yes. I've been waiting a long time to battle you. I have no clue why. You're just an annoying brat to me and yet, you interest me so much. That's why I've challenged you to a Pokémon Battle!" Giovanni said, pulling out a Pokeball.
"Fine! It's time I finally beat you!" Ashton yelled, pulling out his own Pokeball. "Go Rhydon!" Giovanni yelled.

"Ok! Go Vileplume!" Ashton yelled. "Rhydon, use Tail Slam!" Giovanni yelled. Rhydon rushed at Vileplume and slammed its tail into Vileplume. "Vileplume, use Vine Whip!" Ashton yelled. Vileplume sprouted two vines out of the flower on its head and smacked Rhydon with them.
"Now use Stun Spore!" Ashton shouted. Vileplume shot a yellow powder at Rhydon. Rhydon's body suddenly felt heavy and sluggish. "Now use Absorb!" Ashton yelled.
Vileplume shot a vine at Rhydon, which started absorbing energy from the Ground type Pokémon. "Rhydon, use Slam!" Giovanni yelled. Rhydon grabbed the vine and started swinging it around, causing Vileplume to swing all across the gym. Rhydon jerked the vine down, causing Vileplume to crash into the ground. "Vileplume, use Razor Leaf!" Ashton yelled.
