Ashton took a deep breath as he walked through the gate and walked towards the battle area. He got there and saw Eric waiting for him. "So, it's finally time that we battle. We became Pokemon trainers four months ago. We've both become stronger and now it's time to see who's stronger," Eric said. "Yep. I won't lose. I have a promise to keep," Ashton said. "Same. I have to keep my promise," Eric said.

The Announcer walked to battle area. "Welcome to the first match of the second round. Battling today are the two trainers from Pallet Town, Ashton and Eric! Both have shown incredible strength throughout the league!" The Announcer said.

Before he could finish, Ashton and Eric grabbed their first PokeBall and threw it forward. Ashton sent out Sandslash and Eric sent out Dodrio. "Wow! These two are ready to battle! Well then, both trainers, you may begin now!" The Announcer yelled. "Sandslash, use Rollout!" Ashton yelled. Sandslash curled into a ball and rolled towards Dodrio. Sandslash slammed into Dodrio, knocking it over. "Dodrio, use Drill Peck!" Eric shouted.

Dodrio jumped up and started pecking Sandslash really fast. "Sandslash, use Slash!" Ashton said. Sandslash scratched Dodrio with it's claws. "Dodrio, use Tri Attack!" Eric yelled.

Dodrio jumped backwards and shot fire, ice, and electricity from it's three beaks. The attacks hit Sandslash, damaging it. "Sandslash, use Rollout again!" Ashton shouted. Sandslash curled into a ball and rolled at Dodrio. Sandslash slammed into Dodrio. "Dodrio, use Slam!" Eric yelled. Dodrio slammed it's body into Sandslash, making it roll backwards. It stopped in front of Ashton and fainted. Ashton called Sandslash back to it's Pokeball.

"Rough start," Justin said. "It's fine. Ash won't lose so easily," Toru said. "You've got this Ash," King said.

"You can win, Son," Nicole said quietly. "(Ashton and Eric. I won't bet on who'll win, but no matter what, I know both of you are strong. You have all of Johto's eyes on you. Show them your strength.)" Professor Stewart said.

Ashton grabbed his next PokeBall and threw it forward. "Go Typhlosion!" Ashton shouted. Typhlosion came out and roared loudly. "Use Fire Blast!" Ashton shouted. Typhlosion opened it's mouth and fired a huge blast of fire at Dodrio, burning it and making it faint. Eric called Dodrio back to it's Pokeball and grabbed his next one. "Go Steelix!" Eric yelled.

Eric threw his PokeBall forward and Steelix came out. "Steelix, use Iron Tail!" Eric shouted. Steelix lifted it's tail and swung it at Typhlosion. Typhlosion was hit by the tail and was sent flying backwards. It landed on it's back. "Typhlosion, use Flame Punch!" Ashton shouted. Typhlosion got on it's feet and covered it's fist in fire. Typhlosion rushed at Steelix and delivered a strong punch to it. Steelix growled in pain.

"Steelix, use Earthquake!" Eric said. Steelix lifted it's tail and slammed it into the ground, shaking the entire arena. Typhlosion fell to the ground. "Now use Wrap!" Eric said. Steelix grabbed Typhlosion with it's tail and began to squeeze it. "Typhlosion, use Heat up!" Ashton shouted. Typhlosion began to use it's flames to heat up its entire body. Eventually, Typhlosion was too hot to hold, causing Steelix to let go. "Now use Flamethrower!" Ashton shouted.

Typhlosion opened it's mouth and fired a huge blast of fire Steelix. Steelix fell to the ground and fainted. "Give up yet?" Ashton asked. "I'd rather die," Eric said. He grabbed a PokeBall and threw it forward. Eric sent out a Heracross.

"Heracross, use Blitz Punch!" Eric shouted. Heracross rushed forward faster than Typhlosion could see and punched it in the face, making it grab it's face. "Now use Punch Barrage!" Eric said. Heracross started punching Typhlosion in the stomach really fast. Heracross threw one last punch, making Typhlosion fall to the ground and faint.

Ashton called Typhlosion back and grabbed his next one.

"Hey Ronnie," Mike said, getting his partner's attention. "What's up?" Ronnie asked. "Is it me, or does the kid seem more serious than normal?" Mike asked. "You're right. He looks like he'll die if he loses," Ronnie said.
